Unity and Progress National Conference coming to Dominica

Calling all Dominicans at home and abroad to join hands to work together in the development of our beloved Dominica.
Unity and Progress for A Better Dominica (a group of patriotic Dominicans at home and abroad) will be convening the second Unity and Progress International Conference in Dominica on Saturday 15 August 2009.
The principle objective of the conference is to discuss issues related to the socio-economic development of Dominica. This conference, organized in collaboration with the Citizens Forum for Good Governance, is a follow-up to the highly successful event held in New York on 25 April 2009.
At that time, thousands of Dominicans from all over the world had the opportunity to participate live on the internet and by telephone.
Unity and Progress for A Better Dominica is committed to working in partnership with fellow Dominicans at home and abroad and friends of Dominica in creating youth development programs, building parks, creating employment, researching and teaching alternative energy, green building, and sustainable developments and promoting environmental protection and preservation of the eco-systems.
We must all unite and come together to preserve the land that our forefathers gave their sweat and blood for, the land that our mothers cradled close to their breast as they nurtured love for God and country in us. Our objective is to preserve our culture, our sovereignty and promote Dominica’s leadership in the family of Caribbean nations.
The international conference will be free and open to the public: participants at the conference are expected to be representatives of all political parties on the island, local government, the private sector, trade unions, civil society organizations, churches, youth organizations, and Dominican organizations in the Diaspora.

Are you saying that there are enough developmental projects in Dominica? I thought Unity and Progress wanted to work with all Dominicans to help bring additional development to Dominica. Should the group not bring new development to Dominica? I am not sure what you are saying.
I think that sustainable developmental projects in Dominica can never be too much.

These enormous pay and pension increases to our president for instance and his absolute silence on the very blatant bobols occuring right now makes one think, is the present administration attempting to buy his silence.
I think not!!! our president is above that level, and he will speak to us I feel confident of that for if he does not then it will only serve to lead to free thought on it all, basically it leads but to one conclusion that suspisions are somewhat founded so he will speak he has to.
the more investment and sustainable prosperity Dominica can acheive is the basis of the future I wish you blessing and grace, and the fortitude to see it through, but first we have to address seriously the corruption problem in our midst it is rife and it has to stop or we go now where.

Here we go again!
I was at the NY conference and it wasn't well attended as these people want you to believe. Yes, a few people called in but the physical attendance was poor. Never the less, while the general idea of Dominicans meeting to brainstorm so to come up with tangible ways to develop the Nature Isle is really a good one, we have seen that this whole conference thing is just a front for a group "power-hungry" people in the Diaspora (not all in the Diaspora is like that) to gain popularity and possibly recruit others.
From the NY conference, we have seen the New Labour Party and a bunch of political talk that would put the leaders of the conference as top members of a new government if their new party would win the upcoming general elections.
So please, stop masking these political aspirations as conferences to better Dominica. At least the organizers can be honest with the Dominican people and if they are measured to be the best for the country then they will vote them in. But by using this misleading approach is in itself so scary to us Dominicans still at home for we would have never believed that our own people, the so called “cream of the crop” would try to trick us like that.
I know that we should be glad when one of us have gotten out of the barrel and has made it to the “promised land” and is now leaving the life. But the main reason for getting out of the barrel was not for those that did to come back and keep the others in by misleading them and organizing them with the pretence of getting out when the main intended goal is to use all sort of trickery to grab any remaining resources/wealth from the barrel.
Good luck on this new conference in Dominica and let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that the attendance is better this time. You know, the more people that hear this group’s chatter, the more that might be converted (or should I say fooled)!

The PM asked the group submit their proposals comming from the New York Conference have they done that. What were the initiatives comming from the last conference.

I want to hear this organization's views on LIAT's monopoly on Dominica. High prices, poor customer service, bad reputation among the travel industry. What are their views on an International Airport and alternatives to LIAT for tourism and business travel. Too much talk as my teacher said "empty barrels make the most noise". No action.
What are their views on the increasing crime we have in Dominica, unemployment, healthcare, education ie college, university.
I do hope the so called media we in Dominica ask some serious questions.
I have seen some of the press conferences in Dominica. Our journalist, media houses don't ask questions at all they just write the story, the media's purpose is inform the public but in Dominica they fail at this.

Everybody in Dominica are zapper's buddies but Zapper will not be part of or in attendance at the RLP rally. Zapper is curious though, why did you find it appropriate to address this question to Zapper? What made you think that Zapper would have the answer? The values instilled in me by my Dominican mother laid the foundation for service to My country. I stand here with no agenda, no ulterior motives but to see the betterment of my Dominica. This I pledge without reservation and regardless of personal sacrifice for this is my commitment to my homeland.
There are many other things I could be doing but My Dominica was good to me as a young girl, for the very essence of me is hued in my Dominican heritage. So it is with much pride and confidence that I stand ready to do all I can for her.

Ok thank you all for your comments and words of encouragement. We all need to realize and recognize that we are all Dominicans, a people with hope and a nation we can build and have to build. We all are responsible for the future of our country every generation is responsible for the next generation and when we long gone there still will be a Dominica and a nation of Dominicans. I waste my time and went to the 1st gathering of the power hungry in NY. It was empty with the front table people trying their best to impress each other.
Don't waste your time and put anything important aside to try to attend this 2nd gathering of the power hungry people. If you absolutely have nothing to do and want to go see a bunch of people try to talk smart in the hope of impressing themselves (a true clown show) then go see for yourself. However, do keep a 2nd plan close at hand as I know you will want to leave after your first few min.

Soap Box? I have been off my soap box long time ago. I am in Dominica making my contribution as a professional employing people. I am making a practical contribution not just talking as talk is cheap.
Dominicans are not fools, we have seen right through you all veins. The first two events were a failure. The so called unity conference where 400+ people were expected and 50 showed up was a miserable failure. The so called prayer match where an attempt was made to blow down the ministry and only 50 showed up was another disappointment. I'm pretty sure that the Zapper is anxious to see how much freeness the RLP can offer to top that 50-person attendance record. I wonder if we will see another event after striking out with this third event.

However, all I am saying is that these conferences mean nothing or is meaninless if they provide no avenue for job creation, investments, scholarships for our youth, assistance for the elderly. It cannot be that you all see everything that is wrong makes no practical effort to assist in correcting the wrong but just talk, criticise, and destroy peoples character. Talk is cheap.
You all do not see any of the good things that are happeninig in Dominica today to comment on and assist in whatever way to improve upon. Why your group can't provide at least 10 or 15 or 20 university scholarship in various fields per year for the next five years.

It is always wise to conduct some due diligence before jumping in foot first. From your ranting Mr. or Mrs. foot in mouth you do not know anything about the group and how they are working for and have the best interest of Dominica at heart. I do suggest that first you must do some research and then come again.
