A political fire storm is blowing in Au Vent

The La Plaine Constituency consists of the communities of La Plaine, Boetica and Delices. It boundaries begin at the Taberi River in foothills of Morne Goveneaur and culminates at the banks of the mineral rich waters of La Rivere Blanc at Pointe Mulatre Bay in the shadow of the Watt Mountain in the southeast.
This rural Agricultural constituency hugs the rugged Windward Atlantic coast. It has always been called Au Vent due its windward location and the strong trade winds, high degree of rainfall and severity of tropical storms on that region of the island.
Those of us who hail from this region proudly stand on the giant shoulders and legacy of Mr. Pierre Colaire who in April 1893 bravely and openly defied the British Crown. He lead a successful protest on a hillside overlooking the Sari-Sari river against the island’s British Colonial governor (Hayes Smith) and his military commander for imposing an unfair house and land tax on the District’s peasants.
He and his band of unarmed peasants fought for their dignity and that of generations that would follow.
Today in La Paine as in other parts of Dominica, history is repeating itself again as Dominicans are fighting for their dignity in leadership which they deserve. Dominica’s PM and his river of money from Paramount leader Hu Jintao of China and Strong Man Colonel Chavez of oil rich Venezuela is trying to hijack the upcoming elections not only in the Au Vent region but throughout Dominica. He is already boasting that his party will win all 21 constituencies.
One of Mr. Skerrit’s main missions is to dethrone the formidable, popular, professional and dignified MP of La Plaine and leader of the opposition, Hon. Ron Green. ‘Commander’ Skerrit has tapped a former school teacher, ‘Born Again’ Christian and Lay preacher named Peter St. Jean to do his unsavory bidding and capture the constituency. Skerrit regards Au Vent as ‘Ground Zero’ in the up coming elections and wants to beat Green by any means necessary.
The beleaguered PM has increased hand-outs to constituents, and is about to move the so-called housing revolution to La Plaine. Reports indicate that the Red Clinic has set up shop in La Plaine and the rest of Au Vent. Skerrit is of the mind set that the Red Clinic, big billboards and big money will deliver a ‘one- two’ combination punch to Green and knock him out.
Supporters of Mr. Green expect and are bracing for waves of ruthless and unfair attacks and assaults directed by Skerrit and his hired red political machine.
Skerrit's actions, words and behaviors and all the sandals and serious allegations that surround him have left Au Vent folks and the rest of Dominica confused and angry. They are wondering how large and deep is the culture of corruption in his government.
Given the frequency and serious nature of the convincing allegations, a large percentage of civil society have already arrived at the conclusion that Skerrit has lost all the moral authority to continue as Dominica’s Prime Minister.
One example is In the Garbage Bin scandal where the Prime minister continued to insist that he acted in good faith and was simply responding to a need from the Roseau City Council for assistance with providing garbage bins to residents of Roseau.
This statement however, contradicts statements from some members of the Roseau City Council who are on record as saying that at no time did the Council request garbage bins from government. Is there going to be an independent criminal investigation Mr. PM?
In his short radio address to the nation which occurred two weeks after the serious questions were raised, the Prime Minister did not address questions about earlier transactions between Andre Dopwell who is the half brother of Trade Minister Colin McIntyre. Questions had been raised by the opposition about the purchase of fertilizers from Dopwell when McIntyre was Agriculture minister.
Mr. Skerrit’s behavior is having a tremendous negative effect on his candidates and base. Recently his man in La Plaine ’ Brother’ St. Jean, abandoned the teachings of the good book and delivered a very low blow to Mr. Green publicly by calling him a lazy man. Not only is this is untrue it is also downright disrespectful, distasteful and unchristian.
While Mr. St. Jean must take responsibility for his actions and words, understand that he should not be blamed entirely. I know because I grew up with him and was witness to the fact that his hard working parents taught him and his siblings in their own simple ways dignity, understanding, respect for others, compassion and consideration.
Remember the proverbs: Show me your company and I will tell you who you are and birds of a feather flock together-or if you may;’ who you rolling with’? Has Brother St. Jean abandon his upbringings, Christian teachings and the words according to the bible and accepted the words behaviors and actions according to Skerrit?
But one must pity St. Jean who has found himself in the company of Roosevelt Skerrit. Is this the Peter who I knew whose house was a five minute walk from my house in the La Plaine Valley? Is this the ‘Te Brodar’ I knew spending time with him and his brothers on the banks of the upper section of the Laronde River? ---I suppose that was yesterday. Politics has a likely tendency to make mice, jokers and mockery of good and decent men (and women).
Skerrit‘s expertise of late has been insulting people and institutions, arrogance and belligerence. Was St. Jean counseled by Skerrit that he should be more respectful and refrain from making such statements?
The answer is most likely no. So naturally his ‘disciples’ and followers are taking clues from him on how to behave and conduct themselves-follow your 'leader; leader; leader'. That is the leadership that ‘Brother’ St. Jean looks up to.
Mr. Green ignored St. Jean’s low blow and instead maintained his statesmanship demeanor and temperament. He prefers to focus on the bigger issues and challenges of our island home, such as good and honest governance, anti corruption and sustainable development to name a few.
Mr. Green's record of hard work speaks loud and clear. He is a committed worker who during his tenure in Parliament as Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs made it his mandate to further peoples’ development in La Plaine, Boetica and Delices, and Dominica. Whilst considered one of the hardest working Ministers with a very heavy Ministry portfolio, his successes at constituency level are no less notable.
In spite of being in the opposition with little resources, Hon Green has been intimately involved with projects and with human capacity resource development, including the resuscitation of the National Youth Council, enhancement of Youth Skills Training and encouragement of Youth Policy development processes.
Recently while at a library in Washington DC with my family, I met an American who worked in Dominica with an NGO a few years ago. During our conversation, she mentioned Mr. Green's name as a leader in the youth movement on our island.
I mentioned to her that he is considered one of the most honest and fair minded persons in public life in Dominica and has spent his adult life in public service to the people of Dominica. I told her that his wife and I were classmates at La Plaine School and Ron would be an excellent Prime Minister for all Dominicans regardless of party affiliation.
Mr. Green takes nothing for granted and will continue to work hard on voter registration, knocking on doors and campaigning relentlessly. He is confident that by the time the sun fades behind the mountains of the Au Vent region on election night, he will prevail as expected.
His supporters will have enough reasons to celebrate and dance in the streets of La Plaine, Boetica, and Delices and through out our beloved island home after a long, bitter and hard campaign battle.

Never take anything for granted, that is what I was always taught, in the other article I wrote that I would rather have a theif than a liar in power over me, why? with a theif you can take measures to insure and secure your property, with a liar you never know where you stand.
in Skerrit we have a combination of both Liar and theif, this is not mud slinging this is the truth fact. the IPO are inefective they are no insurance against theft, thay are timid and afraid they have no honour, likewise the civil servants who know so much of the wrongs they have no courage which is just what Skerrit wants

Do not underestimate us Dominicans you have fooled, insulted, and stolen from us and made us a laughing stock in the family of nations, you will be remebered for BOBOLGATE, you will be entered into the anals of infamy, deny one thing that I have said one thing you cant and you never will ever.

In the interest of full disclosure let me say that I am also from Laplaine and I got to detest Peter after he killed Aldicks cow with stones and he climbed Erntest's mango trees and shook every flower off the tree so that Laplaine children would not pick up a mango on the ground. All he does is attack people with idiculous allegations. Is so he went on Kari FM and say all kinds of things about Shirley just because she was part of the Unity and Progress for a Better Dominica Interntion Conferenece in NY, but I like the way Shirley responded to him in her usual sophisticated, intelligent style. Peter cannot light a candle to neither Mr. Green nor Shirley. Where was Peter when Mr. Green and and Shirley were doing all that have done for Laplaine? A masterstroke of political analysis, Dr. Finn! A bold and devastating blow at the house of cards that is the heart of the Skerrit strategy!
Mr. Green does not have dimples. Mr. Green has no record of mamaguying women and men who have no pride. What Mr. Green does have is an enviable record of hard work - real development work, not tou chaud, tou flam disorganized selling of our birthright to the highest bidder.
Mr. Skerrit in time, no doubt will get his due. Each brazen and arrogant insult only strengthens the resolve of the Dominican people to ensure that those transgressions do not go unpunished. As for those who scurry for scraps falling off Skerrit's table - when all the glory days of kickbacks, hare-brained corrupt schemes, Red Clinc and mansions galore -when those days come to an end - how will these people get their dignity back?

insult after insult, threat after threat, scandal after sacndal, poverty, crime, Skerrit followers prosper, most have very little and he expects to win the election.
not a chance, throw your dollars to the beying crowd, money and freindship is oil on water, all you end up with are false freinds who are happy to have a corrupt government but only as long as the dollars flow, and anyone who thinks different just have to be as corrupt as the givers of the money.
I hope and pray that there is no violence between the have's and the have not,s this kind of money throwing breeds it, look at Iran right now the same thing happened money donations to the faithful, and now the police are issued with live rounds.

And the inefectual, inert, useless lap dogs who get well paid for ensuring that the IPO is inefectual had better wake up you will be made to perform your duties according to the letter of the rules governing your tenure.

I cannot understand why Peter St. Jean as a so-called Christian, man of God could be quiet when all these things are going on?! It is a down right shame and dirty game he has be brain washed by EL COMMANDANTE-SKERRO well, MR. Why should a firestorm be brewing in Laplaine? It should be easy sailing for RON. The fact of the matter Ron is losing the seat and no cries by Dr Finn can help him now.
Ron Green was in Government when the UWP government gave an unregistered company Decker Construction a contract for EC$6M to to the wotten waven road. There was no tender. The contract was signed not by the PS but by the Minister.
Decker Construction subcontacted the works to Public Works for EC$2M. Ron Green was there. Decker was paid EC$2,553.00 up front ie 30%. Ron Green was there.
Decker paid Public Works EC$903,000.00 of which EC$170,000 bounced. Ron Green Was THere.
Up to this day Decker Construction cannot be located with EC$1.6M Ron Green was there. The legality of appointment of Mr. St. Jean as a senator may be questionable, on grounds of our constitution, which expressly disqualifies "a minister of religion" from holding office as a parliamentary representative or senator (Art.32, sub 1B). Mr. St. Jean is a "lay"preacher but the law does not make any stipulate any distinction between "lay" or "professional" preacher, it simply says"minster of religion".The govt may have wanted to establish a "precedent" by appointing monseigneur Felix as a member of the IPO, in order to justify the appointment of "ministers of religion" as members of future cabinets. The catholic church itself acted in this case by advising archbishop Felix that his appointment was inappropriate, ill advised and not acceptable.Those who oppose Mr. St. Jean may want to seek a debarment on constitutional grounds and I suspect they would have a strong case.

It is well written that attack is the best form of defense, that is why Skerrit attacks and gets his minions to attack for him as well because he needs to defend himself.
skerrit knows what he has done and does not like to be found out he must be a sookouent, to capture a once good guy like St jean and turn him against all the things he once believed and change him so much has to be evil magic.

People, I love the UWP but Ron Green is too tired to take this party forward. His political career is behind him. He appears to be lazy but he is just burnt out. All Skeritt has to do is prolong the election and Ron is out of it. Now is the time for him to be enjoying his retirement and advising the younger generation instead of making a fool of himself fighting for power. Mr. Green it's not too late to step down for the sake of the party. And please take Eddie with you. It's time you all serve the party as the senior advisors.

The fact hat Ron has a fight on his hands in La Plaine is simple; Money and Big Money from Skerrit and his crew: Don’t you know that money is the mother's milk of politics. Money and lots of it changes everything. So that’s why. Tell me where is all this money is coming from and what do Dominicans get in return for it---more Skerrit? The intent was not to start a 'civil war' but to have civil discourse, discussion, disagreement and agreements as a result. ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC - Antigua and Barbuda is the latest Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country to say it will sign on to the Venezuela-led Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA).
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said his government will sign a memorandum of understanding that will facilitate the country becoming a full member of the of the initiative, which is touted as an alternative to the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).
The signing is expected to take place during the ALBA summit in Venezuela on June 24.
Dominica is the only CARICOM country to be a member of the initiative that also involves Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Honduras. St Vincent and the Grenadines is also expected to sign on to ALBA at the meeting next week.
Spencer and Vincentian Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves had long gone public with their support of the initiative as far back as February 2007. Today labourites again are telling lies, involved in open corruption and again like Patrick John are protectinig Skerrit and in the mean time our country is suffering. I have recently been to dominica and it's amazing the changes and delvelopment which has happened there. Dominicans are living much better than a lot of people who live in the bustle of the Big countries like the USA and England. However Dominicans like to complain when they are in Dominica about anything, they also become to party politically polarised and due to their busy lives of spending time on almost every weekend partying eyc... They don't take in much of world news. The Skerrit Gov't has done wonders and I hope they continue to do so, maybe there have been mistakes, but look at all the Big Countries, their gov't make mistakes too. Don't complain of China and Venezuela as remember America England and Europe make loads of finacial deals with these rich countries. Americas debt at present is fully funded by CHINA. Remember when Roosie wanted to go to Libya for money Dominicans made scandal and the UWP was heading this behaviour, America,England and the rest have made friends with Ghadaffi since ALL FOR MONEY. So Dominicans at home if they want to keep using their IPHONE's and BLACKBERRY's need to let this Gov't continue with their good work developing the little island

Today is a special day in our calendar Fathers day an important day I had the honour of having a father who took the time to teach me wrong from right, and sometimes in my youth painfully so. It is only since since I grew to be a man that I now understand his wisdom, he was the cornerstone of our family.
We never had the benefit of wealth in fact we were poor, but he did more than his best in every way to provide, when we never had electricity in our house we never talked about soocouents and the like , he taught us the honour of dignity.

yes my father was just such a man also. he would turn in his grave if he could see that men, the men of government who call themselves honourable do nothing of the kind and hide their crimes in the name of Skerrit, and get away with it.

Please be advised My dear 18 year old friend that Dominica has always been party to aid and grants and loans ( be it soft, or long term), and any government in place will continue to get loans and money from freindly governments, be it USA, GB, Venezuela or wherever. The issue here young man is how is that money invested to multiply to make a difference to what is called in the field sustainable development. We are currently beggars and the money we are getting is NOt being converting or invested to create employment, build industry, other develoopment programmes, in the meantinee time many of our youths, 18 years olds like you are in no jobs, migratinig, in the state prisons, and the psychiatrric Unit.
Furthermore for you advice, there was no proven bobol and corruption in the UWP, the only person who benefited from this allegation is Tony Astaphan who charged the governemtn over $90, 000.00 to prove that that there was corruption and he found nothing. So it is was all a game to get in, they fooled us. Have you heard of the Ambassador Hshi case in Tortala, where Tony Astaphan is again getting this time US$90,000.00 to represent the government. It is like he creates these cases in Dominica to gain money. Tony Astaphan always have to bail out the PM Sketritt at the expense of Dominicas little money. The Labour party has no ideas, they never had, all they do is take care of themselves, turn Donminicans into beggars on the wednesday RED CLINIC while Skerritt and his gangs rip off Dominicas treasury. Young man, please take your time and read between the lines to see what is going on.

I hear there is big trouble in the camp.. They had a closed door meeting last night in Canefield,and let's say it did not go too well for Skeroo! A fraction in the camp wants answers to the fertilizer bobol and Skeroo aint telling them yenck!!
