Open letter to President Chavez from Dominica Opposition Leader
His Excellency Hugo Chavez
President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
Dear President Chavez
Whilst as a people and Country we are, and will continue to be, appreciative and thankful for the many resources Venezuela has made available to Dominica, and as a hospitable people, generally would be happy to welcome you to our beloved Country Dominica, we are concerned and worried that our Prime Minister Roosevelt Skeritt may be opportunistically using you for his own selfish political ends in regards your upcoming visit to Dominica.
On Sunday 7th June Prime Minister Skeritt at his Labour Party’s Annual Delegates Conference called on his supporters and the Nation to be ready for battle noting that “my watch tells me it is a few minutes before midnight. The clock shall soon strike twelve and the moment of truth shall arise. My question to you today, will there be oil in your lamps, will you be well rested and fully charged for the battle?”.
In effect expect a General Election very soon. Two days later the Prime Minister confirmed to the Nation your rumoured visit of 13th June 2009.
In the context of the soon upcoming General Elections we think this is a devious and calculated move by Prime Minister Skeritt to maximize his flagging Parties fortunes, seeking to gain Party political advantage at the expense of accepted international norms regarding interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.
Respectfully, we do not think, you are aware of this nor that this is your intention.
I had occasion in a Meeting with your Ambassador last week to raise our concern of the timing of your Visit, which was followed up with my letter of 9th June.
Our People are anxious to exercise their democratic rights to choose change, to choose economic opportunity, to work hard, to feel genuine hope that we can ensure the God-given assets of Dominica are used sustainably for a bright future.
Any interference in that process or attempt to abort or manipulate the people’s right to choose their destiny can only be considered a fundamentally unforgiveable act.
Already there are national issues of unresolved electoral reforms intended to ensure free and fair elections; unsettled charges of corruption affecting misuse of State finances; lack of transparency and full accountability regarding ALBA matters; and illegalities regarding the Petro Caribe Loan.
These are all matters we as a people must and will confront and settle in the National interest. You would well understand that adding to this list of issues, the manipulation of your Excellency’s Visit is unacceptable.
To the extent that this could impact the long standing positive relations between Dominica and Venezuela, and the respect we all have for you, as head of a friendly and progressive regional country, we are not happy.
Our Nation has partnered, and we as a Party in Government have partnered, with Venezuela, respectfully and constructively, for over two decades, and intend to continue so to do, on our return to office.
We therefore urge, at this time of intense preparation for National Elections, your greatest sensitivity and respect for our democratic process.
Let it not be said that your Excellency’s friendship and support for the valiant efforts of the Dominican people has been abused or in any way damaged.

a very good article well written and articulate, factual and correct, however it has to be pointed out that Mr Chavez is no fool, he is an experienced political figure well versed in the diatribe of pre election politics, he has good advisors very good advisors and he has demonstrated an abillity to see through charades or attempts by others in trying to utilise his friendship and generosity for the sole purpose of gaining pecuniary advantage, Mr Chavez has demonstrated further that he is a very good friend to Dominica, dont underestimate him for Mr Skerrit has and that is a mistake that Mr Chavez will understand and furthermore he will see right through, right through to the heart of the matter, this is one of his well demonstated talents, he is not a man to be easily hoodwinked, he will observe that his generosity so freely given has been missused, spent in the political arena, looking after the well heeled, Mr Cahavez will know also that the people have not truly benefittd in any real sence, further Mr Chavez will appreciate that the timing of his visit is only arranged at this time to further the questionable and devious attempts by Skerrit to continue his abuse of priviledge against the very people that Mr Chavez is genuinly trying to support, he is a true freind to Dominica as a whole not just for the selected few, and if Mr Skerrit thinks otherwise he is sadly mistaken, I think on the balance of probabilities that the visit could actually reveal to Mr Chavez fisrt hand about where his bountious gifts have been spent, and he will also observe the abject poverty, He being a guest and an experiened political figure will for sure say the right things, but If I am right I feel that Mr Skerrit may be in for more than a surprise or two, if only for the taking for granted the Generosity freindship and kindness of this very important man.

It would appear that instead of logical reasoned comment as is witnessed in the above short illogical sentences hastily put together as is witnessed by the random jottings of train, you could be forgiven to assume that he has adopted the aggresive and uneducated ways of Skerrit, attack without due process of thought, unfortunately for the ill informed belicose there are a lot of Dominicans who agree with Ron wholeheartedly for they are sick to death of being taken for granted, irrespective of alegience to any particular political party, as Sam Christian commented any vote for which ever party is a vote lost to Skerrit which will go a long way to putting a stop to Bobol, corruption, lies and deciept, which have become the "norm" in the Skerrit camp. take time to look around and see for yourself as to exactly who has benefitted, how many are virtually grovelling in the dust whilst the rich get richer, take a look at the businmess closures due to being forced out by unwelcome competition from foreign nationals, do you understand at all the garbagegate bobol or are your eyes closed and your ears shut only open to hear your glorious boss indoctrinate you with falsehoods, these are fair points. to be objective and questioning is the first demonstration of intelect, so come on train do not be like an express one with no brakes that is about to crash wake up and see with eyes wide open, ears on full alert, and when you have done this comment further

The very best political speeches are the ones where the speaker tells his flock excatly what they want to hear, the political arena is full of wana bees and arm chancers, Martin Luther king said I have a dream, I know of very few people in this world that have never heard those words they echo through history, Hitler said Leibensraum or living space for righteous Volk "people" jews no longer have the right to live, politics is one of two things only it is either GOOD OR BAD, what do we have in our beautiful nature's island, can we as a people take the ridicule of the family of nations as a people who desire bobol, deciept, corruption that is the only issue of the day none other, personalities do enter the frame here, nor does political bias in any sence,are we to endure the stigma of a divided poulace who's history has always been brotherhood, where those who vote for the bobol are looked after while the rest of us suffer, recall if you will Cuba how the people rose up with Fidel this was all about bobol, I remeber the chants Fidel, Fidel, Fidel was the cry, divide and conquer is another famous wartime speech, that appears to have been adopted by the Skerrit administration, I have to admit I am worried and deeply concerned that he will divide the brotherhood and sistership, using dollars as his tool that has given us such pride enabling us to stand tall, proud, and above all free, free to say what is the truth without fear, to enjoy the benefits of a truly free press, I predict only government press, I see the have's and the have not's, I witness the already widening gap between us driven by jealousy brought about by need, I see soocuents in our midst, I see the drug business flourishing , and murder on the increase. I watch the rich get richer and the poor getting poorer, I witness the police and their own handcuffs restraining them them stopping them performing their duty, this is not what I want and it must stop now, right now. my vote will be for freedom, good governance, effective law and order, decent and proper treatment for all not just the selected few, I will vote for the party I support which obviusly is not Skerrit, but my vote wether it is for the UWP, or Pappy matters not a jot, what matters what really matters is that Skerrit will not get it. you have to choose GOOD OR BAD nothing more nothing less.

So deal with Ron Green, Shirley did not even comment on the letter, yet it became about her.. From what I see she realy has an effect on you people, you should be glad she CAN'T come to Dominica, she would have you peeing in your pants. This woman sure has some power!!! I know about Shirley's writing, she would definately write a better letter than that, and if she was advising Mr. Green she would have edited that letter before it went out. I know there are many who can't stand a bone in her for no reason at all, but please give her what belongs to her. I know the Sister, we grew up together, I have always looked up to her. Yes Chavez did one of his speeches said the right things offered the earth But at what cost, he should do all of the things he has promissed us in his own country first, for in his country is poverty in abundance,
My God this promise of unbounded aid saying that Dominicans will never be blackmailed or held to ransom over fuels is a dichotomy in terms if we had a government in office that we could trust I may feel differently.
Sklerrit stated that Dopwells brother had never had any dealings with him,ever yet he was the minister for agriculture only to find thanks to Mr lennox that he did, so now we have fertilisergate the practice run it seems for the more recent garbagegate, in their criminal mind they got away with it the first time so felt comfortable with the second run at robbing the state.
That is why I am unhappy with Chavez giving money to the likes of this merry band, politics has had men like this throughout the centuries there lies the true mafia, no matter what may be said in defence of Skerrit no matter how many dollars of what Chavez gave him to distribute in the hope of winning the election matters not a jot.
What matters what remains is the twin bobol he will be remebered for and what ever else is waiting to be discovered I see a new name BOBOLGATE this combines garbgegate and fertilizergate as one BOBOLGATE we must rid ourselves of this evil in our midst and get proper solid governance that we deserve nothing less
I always maintain that if there was a choice to make would I rather have a thief or a liar, in control over me, I said a thief for with a thief you can take out insurance, secure your properties and take steps to ensure that you are protected, but with a liar you never know where you are, you can never trust a liar.
We must have an effective control system over this lot the IPO is a sham a proper insurance must be put in place to protect us from this robbery of state funds
unfortunately sitting in power over us we have a combination of both a liar and a thief and you wonder who to vote for. or are you going to take the Chaves dollars if you do remember nothing is for ever, Chavez will be mad when Skerrit loses and he does not take defeat quietly, read the Americen press, read the european press, read the British press, then you just might understand.

I think the above anonymous is right Skerrit and BOBOLGATE are forever linked joined together in infamy. to the detriment of us all.
The Churhes are quiet only cause they are on the Skerrit payroll, making a mockery of what they say from their pulpit, and against the word of God, those who recieve this money are as corrupt as the givers of it.

Skerrit like Chavez have their own hidden agendas! While I support the help to the poor people in Venezuela. Skerritt sits on his backside begging and dishing out handout and well as our name suggests-Dum-in-the-cans fall for it, because some of us a downright lazy, selfish and greedy. While those so called Christians or church goers, say the worship God, sit silent becuz they too are upholders of the garbage that is taking place. I vote for none!

All I have to say is that Ron is being taken for a ride by some of his advisers and they will make the man jump over the edge of that cliff anytime soon, ask Senator Nicolse Esprit, I hear he and some other party cronies are not happy with some of the statements that Ron makes to the public
