Sean Douglas government’s press secretary said goodbye on Friday after more than nine years on the job.
Sean Douglas was recently fired as government press secretary.
Douglas was fired by the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) government for what it said was his refusal to sign a backdated contract.
The outspoken press secretary said that his journey “was an extraordinary one since it was an honour to serve his country.”
“It has been an incredible journey. My stint as press secretary has been an extraordinary experience, an amazing adventure.”
Douglas first served under prime minister Pierre Charles and was at the center of a controversy after he was secretly taped by Frankie Bellot of Kairi FM. On the tape, Douglas was heard to boast of his ability as well as other government officials to spend lavishly on government sponsored trips abroad.
He survived the ensuing press scrutiny and went on to serve until his dismissal this month.
In the press conference he held on the last day of his appointment, Douglas pointedly refused to mention prime minister Roosvelt Skerrit for whom he worked for more than seven years. The two were said to be at odds.
“I recall prime minister Pierre Charles, ministers of Government, I want to single out people like Matthew Walter, Charles Savarin, Loreen Bannis-Roberts, my friend and mentor former ambassador Crispin Gregoire, Swinburne Lestrade, the speaker of the house, the financial secretary Mrs. Edwards, the former financial secretary Mr. Sylvester…thanks to you.”
Douglas said he would take some time off before deciding his next move. “ I would hope that with God’s help and guidance I will move unto even bigger and greater things.”
A replacement for Mr. Douglas has not yet been announced.
