This is Marcia’s second title in two months having won the Miss Caribbean World at a bueaty contest in Tortola in June.
In last night’s competition, Marcia also won the Best Evening Wear Award and the title for the most environmentally-friendly contestant.
The first runner-up position went to Sangreena Harris, Ms. Anguilla, with Sudeakka Francis of St. Kitts & Nevis and Iva Christina Satney from St. Lucia placing 2nd runner-up and 3rd runner-up, respectively.
The Dominican beauty is a tireless advocate for diabetes prevention and in the run-up to the competition, told the local press that “being an advocate for diabetes is a dream that I am realizing in the hope of getting people more aware of its effects, what we can do as a people to lessen the amount of persons affected by diabetes and that it is important for those already affected by it to take their treatment persistently.”
Marcia also revealed that she wants to be a crime scene investigator saying, “I stand firm by the belief that my calling in life is to be a role model to the youth and others in and around my country.”
In a day and age where killing, using drugs and theft among others are a huge problem, there is an absolute need for the youth to have someone positive, understanding and real to look up to. In light of that, and for want of decreasing crime and the amount of criminals left to wander the streets, I aspire to become a crime scene investigator.”
According to Miss Dominica, “I live by many quotes such as ‘Life is limitless so don’t limit yourself’, ‘Through God everything is possible once it is his will’ and ‘Where there is a will, there is a way’.
To be successful one should always be God fearing, hard working and determined. Remember, diabetes does not have to be an illness if we all make it our business.”
