The Dominican.net Fiftieth Issue: A Celebration of Hope Thomson Fontaine
The most profound realization of ones dream always begins with that dream. We hope for things we desire to have, going beyond our immediate reality, always reaching for what to us may appear unreachable at the time. Ultimately we achieve, because we dare to dream today.
Hope burns eternal, yet the realization of that hope resides in our ability to set aside our own limitations, ignore our limits and believe that we can achieve the impossible. As we celebrate the publication of the fiftieth issue of the Dominican.net, I would love to pause and reflect, in part, on that dream, which sustains and permeates every article and each issue.
The dream was unremarkable in its simplicity. Find a medium for bringing Dominicans together under a common theme of patriotism, love for country, and nation building. The manifestation of that dream is remarkable for its endless and exciting directions that it has taken.
After just two years, thousands of Dominicans spread over every continent of the globe have found a common place to congregate. Month after month, they have been able to participate and share in the achievements of fellow Dominicans, read critical articles on everything from economic development, to population issues, to education.
Of course, immediate and shameless thanks goes to God Almighty, who but for his staying love and grace, none of this would be possible. Thanks as well to the writers and contributors who have added remarkable depth and breath to our message, the many persons who allow their stories to be told, and the thousands of persons devoted to reading day after day. Thanks must also be extended to the local print and radio media for taking a lot of the stories and features in the Dominican.net to an audience that we could not otherwise reach.
So, we are back to where we started. Exulting in hope and being patient in its manifestation. Like most people of any Nation, as Dominicans, we believe in our country, we join hands in standing against the negatives of crime, economic malaise, despair and failure. We trust and believe in a strong, proud and resilient Nation built on the goodwill, hard work, dreams and hopes of a people determined to succeed.
The more we network, collaborate, combine and share our efforts, the greater the realization of that dream. Ultimately, we become what we make of ourselves.
