Diaspora Dominicans Celebrate Silver Jubilee

On November 03, 2003 Dominicans will celebrate twenty-five years of Independence from Great Britain. The former British colony, which threw off the colonial chains under Premier Patrick John has since gone through a series of political and economic upheavals. Nonetheless, throughout Dominica and overseas the celebrations have begun.

In this section we will tell you how and where Dominicans are celebrating in the United States. In addition to those mentioned below, events are taking place in Atlanta, Boston, Miami and Tampa. Please contact [email protected] with further information on these events.

WASHINGTON
A grand independence gala will take place at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley RD, NW, Washington DC 20008 (202-328-2000), donation is $45. It begins at 8:30 pm on Saturday October 25 and will be under the distinguished patronage of Dominican Ambassador to the United Nations Crispin Gregoire. Music will be provided by Royalty Band

The Dominica Sisserou Int�l Group, Inc will present the Miss Wob Dwiyet USA 2003 On Saturday, October 18, 2003 from 8:30 pm at the Paul Robeson Theatre, 40 Greene Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222 (downtown) (Off Fulton Street. Bet. Cumberland & Adelphi).

Guest artists are OPHELIA OLIVACHE-MARIE & RAS MO with music by the Evolution Band with a dance following immediately afterwards. The Permanent Mission to the UN and the Dominica Consulate General in New York, in partnership with Dominican Associations in the New York metropolitan area, are sponsoring a cultural gala featuring Dominica's music and dance on November 8, and a inter-faith church service on November 9.

NEW JERSEY
