General Secretary of the PSU Thomas Letang in making the announcement said that he believes the populace have been overburdened with taxes and should be given the right to vote on the matter.
Prime Minister Pierre Charles has repeatedly indicated that new tougher measures must be imposed in order to reverse the negative economic trend on the Island. The measures expected include the laying off of public workers or a reduction in salaries or both.
Meanwhile, it is been reported that the teaching service will be the first to feel the cut in the size of the public service. The government is planning to close down schools with small populations and transfer students to larger ones while releasing some teachers with small workloads.
