Dominican triple jumper Thea Lafond secured a silver medal in the event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Lafond’s jump of 14.39m placed her behind gold medalist Shaneika Ricketts of Jamaica and ahead of bronze medalist Naomi Metzger of England. She is the current national and OECS record holder with a mark of 14.62m.

In 2018, Lafond also made history when she became the first Dominican athlete to win a medal in the prestigious games where she won a bronze medal for her country.

Lafond’s jump of 14.39 in Birmingham comes just weeks after her fifth place showing at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Eugene Oregon with a jump of 14.56m.

The 28 year-old has represented Dominica at several sporting events across the globe including the Rio Olympics in 2016 and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
