London, England (TDN)
Two Dominicans are among the scores of persons missing and feared dead from the massive fire that ravaged Grenfell Tower in London over a week ago. Marjorie Vital age 67 and her son Ernie Vital, 43 have not been seen since the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning of June 14, 2017.
The two migrated from Soufriere, Dominica and are believed to have been among the earliest residents of the ill-fated tower. Family and friends of the two victims have been searching frantically for word on the fate of their loved ones.
Mimi Delson a niece of Marjorie Vital told the British newspapers that the two were living on the 16th floor of the apartment and that neither have been heard from since the fire broke out.
Another family member took to Instagram and wrote simply “We’re looking for my uncle and my grandmother Ernie Vital and Marjorie Vital. They live in Grenfell Tower on the 16th floor. If anyone can help or knows anything please call us on 07828835824 or 07886940857. Thank You.”
Meanwhile British authorities are continuing their investigations and expect the death toll to eventually reach 79. So far only 8 persons have been positively identified. It is believed that the fire may have started from a faulty refrigerator on a 4th floor apartment and then quickly spread as cladding on the outside of the building ignited and moved the fire upwards.
Many of the residents were able to come out alive but others remained inside on the advice of fire officials and paid the ultimate price.
