Phillisburg, St Maarten (TDN) -- Police in St Maarten are investigating the bizarre murder of two month old infant Mark Reid that has left an entire community in shock and people looking for answers.

At the center of the probe is murder suspect Dalton Le Blanc from Mahaut, Dominica. According to Police reports, Le Blanc entered a home after breaking through the windows and snatched the baby from his bed while he slept. He then swung the baby from side to side before throwing the baby on the street where he died instantly.

Published reports out of St Maarten indicate that Leblanc began acting strangely earlier in the day and was sent home from his job where he worked as a security guard. Later in the evening, he showed up shirtless and incoherent at a night club.

A guard accosted him before he fled at high speed in his vehicle, hitting several parked cars in the process. Ater crashing his car he then barged into the home where the unthinkable happened.

Police have so far not made any link between the suspect and the baby’s family, but released the following statement.

“On Tuesday April 2nd at approximately 11:30pm, several police patrols were sent to Basseterre Drive for a home break-in. On the scene the investigating officers were informed that the suspect had fled the scene possibly in a vehicle.

“While on the scene, the officers heard a very loud sound coming from the Middle region road. They immediately went to Middle Region road where the loud sound came from and encountered a white Toyota vehicle that had struck and destroyed the concrete wall of a house on that road next to a Supermarket.

“During the investigation of the traffic accident, the police saw a man approaching them who was possibly the driver of the vehicle. The officers noticed also that this man was carrying something in his hand but because of the darkness they could not identify what this object was. The object turned out to be a baby. The baby at that moment was not giving any sign of life.

“Immediately the officers struggled with this man to subdue him. The Police Central Dispatch was informed of the situation and the Paramedics were immediately sent to treat the infant who was already not showing any sign of life. The suspect with initials D. Le B. from the island of Dominica (26) was arrested on the scene and taken to the police department in Philipsburg.

“The Detective Department and Forensic Department were informed of the situation and immediately came to the scene and started to collect evidence on the scene. Dr. Douglas who arrived shortly after pronounced the death of the victim. The body of the infant victim with initials M.A.R. Jr., two months old was confiscated for further investigation.

“This case is still in its preliminary stages and is being investigated by the Detective Department who along with the Forensic Department are putting the pieces together. At this time we cannot give any more information and when it becomes available the media will be informed.”
