Adam Sanford Recalled to West Indies Cricket Team for Test Series in South Africa Thomson Fontaine
Pace bowler Adam Sanford from the Carib Territory who became only the fourth Dominican to play on the West Indies team was recently recalled to the squad for its tour of South Africa.
Playing in the Second Test in Durban, he was the pick of the West Indian bowlers capturing 3 for 170 in the Windies humiliating loss to South Africa by an inning and 65 runs.
In April of 2002, Sanford became the first Dominican in over twenty years to be selected on the West Indies team. In 2000 Wayne Phillip played as stand in wicket keeper for the West Indies tour of England. The twenty- seven year-old right arm fast bowler made his debut against the visiting Indian team.
Sanford had a very impressive debut capturing seven wickets for thirty-four runs in the first two tests, which included a memorable dismissal of the worlds number one batsman Sachen Tendulkar for a duck in the second innings of the second test in Trinidad. Following the Indian tour, he was controversially dropped by the West Indies selectors.
Although he did not play in the first test in Johannesburg, South Africa, he was selected in the second test after playing a warm-up match against Durban.
Despite an enterprising double century by captain Brian Lara in the first innings of the first test, West Indies went down in defeat by 188 runs. In the second test, centuries from Chanderpaul and Sarwan were not enough to prevent the Windies humiliating loss to their South African hosts.
