Questions Our Readers Ask - New CARICOM Passports
theDominican.net Newsdesk

From time to time, we will explore matters of interest to our readers in this section.

We address questions relating to the issue of new CARICOM passports.

Q: When did the new Caricom passport become effective?
The government of Dominica began issuing new CARICOM passports in December 2005. The new machine readable passports will replace the existing passport.

Q: If I recently obtained a new passport, for instance in October of 2005, do I still need to replace it?
Yes. The new passports are particularly critical for entering the United States as the authorities will soon begin to request only machine readable passports. The original passports do not meet that criterion.

Q: What should I do if I had a US visa on my original passport?
You should apply for the new passport and you will be allowed to keep your original passport containing the visa. You may however choose to have the visa transferred to the new passport through a United States Embassy.

Q: What is the cost of the new passports and how can I obtain one?
The passport costs US $40 or $EC100. Application forms can be obtained at the Immigration Office, Police Headquarters in Roseau or at the Dominica consulate in New York.

Q: What documents are required for the passport?
If you do not have an original passport, you will need a copy of your birth certificate.

Further queries can be made through the Passport and Immigration Department, Police Headquarters, Roseau, Dominica ; telephone 1 767 448 2222.
