Petros Meaza Exhibit at Ross Library

Paintings by the artist, Petros Meaza, are now on display in the library of Ross University School of Medicine. A native of Ethiopia, Mr. Meazas paintings evoke the spirit of Africa with vivid colors and the frequent use of traditional African symbolism.

He favors the impressionist style of painting and uses what he describes as irregular splotches and spontaneous knife and brush strokes. He enjoys showing movement in his paintings and his works depicting Dominican dancers illustrate that very well.

Petros Meaza holds a B.A. with honors in Fine Arts from Addis Ababa University School of Fine Art, 1977, and in 2002 he took part in the International Artist Resident Training Programme in Paris, France. He has exhibited in Ethiopia, Kenya, Egypt, Greece, and France as well as throughout the Caribbean.

A lover of art and music, Mr. Meaza has been painting since childhood. He grew up in a family of painters and musicians. Both his parents were artists and his brothers and sisters painted and played musical instruments.

Meaza has lived in Dominica for seven years and is inspired by the colors and scenery of his adopted country. Before settling in Dominica he lived in France and in Guadeloupe. In addition to being a studio artist, he works for the Dominican Ministry of Education as a high school art teacher.

The paintings will be up through April 13. All paintings are for sale and may be seen any day of the week at the Ross University Library, Fay Robiner room. Prospective buyers may contact the artist directly; business cards are available in the exhibit area.
