Dominican Artist Exhibits at International Art Show Thomson Fontaine
Dominican artist Pauline Marcelle is participating in the artBrussels international art show in Brussels, Belgium, which runs from April 20 - 24. Marcelle is represented by Layr:Wuestenhagen Contemporary in Vienna, Austria along with gallery artists Gil & Moti of Israel and Joao Pedro Vale of Portugal. Marcelle is presenting two videos and painted video stills.
Agnes eats and Ken eats depicts two undressed beings, female and male, eating exotic fruits. A dissonance develops during their rapid handling action when they become an abstract picture with torn and distorted fruits, defining the body as erotic, perhaps even the forbidden fruit. This moment of irritation develops particularly where the fruits are no longer definable.
The video stills represent motionless action and time captions imprisoning moving images for public judgement intellectually and mentally surveyed on the insights of content. The transmission of the video into a two-dimensional media is then painted over in oil, underlining the pictorial statement of the video.
In all subjects Marcelles work reflects much on the thematic subject of human meetings and encounters - their variety, interaction and influential effects of the social surroundings to which they are subjected.
This confrontation of exchange is not a legal or moral obligation but a whole importance procedure of expression, of respect as to what one gives or receives in affiliation through items with temporarily installed nomadic properties.
The works describe the basis of a repopulated space and its displaced attributes, injecting nomadic properties of living and giving mobility, making each image an island surrounded by diverse environmental capabilities.
The elevation of the mundane into the world of the aesthetic compares the impressions and interpretations to hypothetical opinions by forcing observers to look at everyday objects in surprisingly new contexts beginning with one's own tradition.
Artbrussels is the European platform for contemporary art and as the capital of Europe, Brussels has rapidly become one of the most cosmopolitan and multicultural places on the continent. The diversity and character of the different communities provides an endless source of inspiration for the many international artists who come to live in Brussels. The city is fast becoming an exciting creative laboratory, with a tempting dynamic fusion of artistic talents and ideas.
Belgium is a country that can be proud of the number of its art collectors, whose artistic vision is unrivalled abroad. Moreover, many Belgian companies have made their passion for contemporary art one of the pillars of their corporate culture. In Belgium contemporary art is mostly a matter of private initiative.
It is precisely this rich combination of private initiative and professionalism that sees galleries, collectors and public institutions working together to give artbrussels its unique character.
More than any other event in Belgium, artbrussels is a show that, year after year, manages to hold the attention of the entire art world. A place where foreign galleries and artists find an ideal platform to present themselves to Belgian collectors, and where young Belgian talent can introduce itself to the international market.
Marcelles US representative is Tod Roulette and her works can be found posted at her website at < a href="www.paulinemarcelle.com"> www.paulinemarcelle.com
