Former DLP Senator to Contest Next Elections for the UWP

Former Dominica Labour Party Senator Griffin St. Hilaire called on the poor and working classes of Dominica to not lose hope, but to hold on until the UWP takes office at the next general election.

St. Hiliare who lost to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skeritt for the leadership of the DLP in 2004 recently announced that he would contest the next elections, due in 2010, with the opposition United Workers Party (UWP).

The former senator who is currently employed with the United Nations said that the DLP had betrayed the working class of Dominica. He said that the UWP would place Dominica back on track, on the development path from where they left off in the year 1999.

St. Hilaire noted that Dominicans are very unhappy at the moment, as a result of the high cost of living and a poor economy. He lamented the fact that the current labour party leadership is comfortable with collaborating with the local chamber of commerce to stop the importation of barrels of foodstuffs and home toiletries for the poor people of Dominica.

According to St. Hiliare, that type of thinking is contrary to the thinking of the late Prime Minister Rosie Douglas who had intended to increase the number of duty free barrels of foodstuffs that would have been permitted to enter Dominica for poor Dominicans.

eh ben weh! wat next, see I think that our country is going down the drain, cost of living so high and "they" that group of high class businessmen in Roseau, want to have a grip on Dominica and our people are so blind to see that. They get carried away by the petty politics will politicans are doing nothing to alleviate the plight of the low income fellow men. If the government allow this to happen, well D/a finish Bondieu. God help us!

Griffin is just a sour grape, and to stoop to this level to say a government will stop the importation of barrels is just ridiculous.
It is amazing what learned men will say when they want to get in power.
Griffin what will happen next when you realize you cannot get the leadership from Earl Williams?

isn't it amazing what so called learned men will say when they are aspireing and one question the sincerity of such individuals. yes cost of living is high in Dominica isn't that so for the world on a whole due to oil prices and fall of the us dollar,as an accountant for the UN i think he would be aware that such factors play a part. if the barrel statement is true then shame on the gov'T

I think we Dominicans must complement our intellectuals when they get into politics. I have listened closely to the comments coming from the DLP and its associates on Griffin's move and i find them pathetic. The DLP sounds just like a man who was with a woman for a number of years and when she leave him he calls her all sort of degrading names.

Griffin is a special talent and i see nothing wrong if he wantes to be PM of Dominica. If Skerrit can be PM why not Griffin, someone with great leadershp and mangement skills as well as good international experience through his work in the UN.
