Laundry Dryer for PMH Editorial
The Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) has for many years been serving the needs of most of Dominicas 70 000 inhabitants. It is the countrys largest hospital and is situated in the town of Roseau. See more
This 240 bed hospital currently has limited laundering services to meet the needs of its many patients. Due to continuing financial hardship and Dominicas current economic situation, laundering services at the hospital is comprised of one washer and one dryer, which operates at limited capacity. Additionally, staff has resorted to washing linens by hand in an effort to meet the needs of patients. (See photo). This is certainly a critical medical safety and health issue, which must be urgently addressed.
Clearly, the medical standards for laundering hospital linens is not adequate to appropriately sanitize the linens. Recently, Dominicans residing in Canada provided two washers. Now, a group of concerned Diaspora Dominicans have decided to take on the challenge of raising the $7 000 necessary to provide the PMH with a fully functioning industrialized laundry dryer.
The drive is been conducted under the auspices of the Dominica Academy of Arts and Sciences (DAAS), and tax-deductible contributions may be sent to The Treasurer, DAAS, P O Box 27254, Washington DC, 20038. Please play your part in helping to improve the medical conditions of the PMH, and contribute generously to this effort.
