Leandra Cuffy Dominica’s foremost female calypsonian has died

Roseau, Dominica (TDN) Dominica’s leading female calypsonian Leandra Cuffy has died. She was 42. The young calypsonian who was a health worker by profession died at approximately 8:00 A.M on Tuesday September 20, 2016.

Cuffy from the village of Grand Fond is said to have awakened with a severe headache and chest pains and was showing signs of having difficulty breathing. She was taken by private car to a health facility approximately 4 miles away. However, about ten minutes into the drive the car pulled over in the neighboring village of Riviere Cyrique as she appeared to be in increasing difficulty. She died shortly after.

The young calypsonian was a regular feature in the calypso competition making it to the finals in 2013.

She is survived by her parents, two children and several siblings.
