Switzerland and Dominica are looking to strengthen ties after the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Switzerland in Dominica.
On April 8th, 2015, Andy Burkard was introduced as the first Honorary Consul of Switzerland to Dominica in an official ceremony at the Fort
Young Hotel.
The ceremony was attended by the Swiss Ambassador to Dominica, Her Excellency Mrs. Line Leon-Pernet, the Acting President of Dominica, His Excellency Mr.
Conrad McIntyre, the First Consul & Secretary of the Swiss Embassy in Santo Domingo, Mr. Bernhard Schuerch, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Miss Careen Prevost, other members of the Diplomatic Corps and over twenty-five (25) residents of the Swiss community in Dominica.
Mr. Burkard, who has been living in Dominica since 1993, pledged to do his best in performing his duties for the Swiss community and also indicated that he
“felt proud to officially serve as liaison between his two beloved countries.”
At the Ceremony, the Swiss Ambassador announced the intention to further deepen and widen the relationship between the two countries and informed of the
commitment of the Swiss Government to finance a Sports Development Project for Dominican schools and communities in the field of Table Tennis, in the
amount of US$ 50,000.00 during the 2015 year.
While visiting Dominica, the Swiss Ambassador also took the opportunity to meet various Ministers of Government to discuss other matters of common
interest, and ways to strengthen the cooperation between Dominica and Switzerland.
