Roseau, Dominica (TDN) Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that general elections will take place in Dominica on December 8, 2014.

The elections come just 10 days short of five years since elections were last held in that country. In making the announcement prime minister Skerrit outlined his party’s years of attempting to bring development to Dominica.

The United Workers Party (UWP) headed by Lennox Linton will be the major challenger to the incumbent and have already announced a full slate of candidates to contest the 21 seats in the Nation’s Parliament.

Under Dominica’s electoral system, the prime minister has the authority to call elections at any time and is only required to give a minimum of twenty five days’ notice.

Thursday November 6, 2015 will be the last day for persons to register to vote.
