Canefield, Dominica (TDN) --- Hummingbird Air has started special weekend charter flights directly from St Thomas to Dominica and return. Meanwhile the new airline company has submitted an application to the US Department of Transportation for permission to operate scheduled flights between St Croix and Canefield Dominica via St Maarten.
Upon approval the company expects to operate three Beach 99s up from the one currently in use for the charter flights. Hummingbird Air is owned by Dominican hotelier Sam Raphael who also owns the famed Jungle Bay Resort on the South East side of the island.
Raphael has cited the cancellation of direct connections by regional airlines LIAT between St Croix and Dominica as one of the reasons for seeking to operate the new service. In the past he has also lamented the large number of hotel cancellations from potential clients who realize that they are unable to make it in a sufficiently short space of time to their destination.
The flight takes roughly ninety minutes and a special introductory price of US$350.00 round trip to Dominica is available from now until August 15 2014. In additional to passengers the flight also accepts cargo between the two islands.
Inquiries into the service can be made by calling 340-344-5334 (St Thomas), 340-626-3571 (St Croix) or 767-275-2368in Dominica.(TDN)
