La Plaine, Dominica (TDN) -- By decision of the Government of Dominica, the public sporting facility now known as the ‘R. M. G Sports Complex' in La Plaine will become known as the ‘The Kirt Hector and Norran John.
Hope Sports Complex in honour of late Coach of the National Football Team and the player on the National Football team of Dominica. Now, the names 'Kirt Hector’ and ‘Norran John. Hope’ and their contribution to sports in Dominica will forever live on the lips, and in the hearts of residents and visitors to La Plaine, the Southeast and in Dominica’s history.
In addition, the Government of Dominica will also grant two Scholarships to the Dominica State College (DSC) to aspiring young sports personalities of good academic standing in the Southeast in honour of both Kirt Hector and Norran John. Hope. A Government Scholarship will also be awarded to Kelly Hector, daughter of Kirt Hector, to facilitate completion of her studies at the Dominica State College.
Hector and John. Hope lost their lives in the pre-dawn hours of April 19 when the vehicle in which they were travelling fell into a break in the Pond Casse Road; an opening that occurred after three days of heavy rainfall. At the time, the footballers were on their way to Melville Hall Airport en route to a football tournament in St. Vincent.
I wish on behalf of the Government of Dominica and the entire community of the southeast to extend sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. The gestures in the names of Hector and John. Hope are the government’s way of memorializing the two while also committing to the further development of sports and sports personalities in La Plaine specifically and Dominica in general.
