Organization of American States to send election observers to Dominica
TheDominican.net
For the first time in Dominica’s history outside observers have been asked to officially observe the conduct of elections.
Responding to a request from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, the Organization of American States (OAS) is sending an electoral observation mission for the general elections in Dominica, scheduled for December 18, 2009.
The first observers will arrive on Wednesday, December 9, to prepare the transportation and communication infrastructure of the mission. OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza appointed Steven Griner, the Head of the Electoral Observation Section of the OAS Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation, to serve as the Chief of Mission.
Steven Griner will arrive on Sunday, December 13, and meet with political leaders, governmental representatives and electoral authorities. The mission will number twelve people from eight different OAS member countries.
These observers will visit polling centers in each of the 21 political constituencies of the country. The Mission will remain until the promulgation of the final results.
The Chief of Mission will report to the OAS Permanent Council the observations of the missions in early January.
Opposition parties in Dominica have raised concerns over the conduct of the upcoming elections, accusing the ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) of planning to illegally fly in hundreds of overseas based Dominicans to vote in some key constituencies.
The allegation have been denied by the DLP claiming that they are simply allowing persons to exercise their democratic right to vote. Over 67 000 people are registered to vote in a country with a population f about 70 000.
It is not clear whether the OAS will intervene in the issue of the charter flights to Dominica.

Brother,
Please do not drift too far. Tried calling you again today and just cannot get through.
I spoke to Kondwani this morning. There is madness going on at the Commission. You need to call in Richard and Kondwani. I leave today. These guys are talking about reforms to inlude ID cards and COMPLETE REREGISTRATION! Such reforms will underrmine your reelection legacy as the opposition will say look, the Commission agreed with us; reform was required because of wide spread fraud!!!!!!!!!!

What fraud? Hugo and Castro will be there or they will send their boys to supervise and direct the election, so all is well, don't worry be happy for the dicatorship.
I have listened with keen interest a few months ago at the glowing ecconomic indicators from Dominica particularly the percentage growth the country had at a time when the rest of the world seemed well on its way to hell in a hand basket.
Hypothetically speaking, if all of these indicators are true, why then is Anthony Astaphans, PM Skerrit and the DLP afraid of electorial reform. The DLP should have no fear, they will be reelected hands down. Also, the DLP should be taking the lead and challenge the other political parties to a debate where they lay out the records of their performance suported with creditable statistical facts and figures and challenge their opposition to prove otherwise.
But then again this is just wishfull thinking. And a warning to whichever political party forms the next government and a reminder to the DLP "when you are going to dig a pit, don't dig one always dig two" and "you cannot keep me down unless you are prepared to stay down with me"
Saying this to say that the alligations of corruption against the UWP are still UNPROVEN allegation from the 2000 general elections.

Those in american that keep talking about honesty, i dont know who you could sleep. Before we start callin people dishonest look in the mirror when you pointin one finger three is pointing back at you.
i have never seen nor heard of corruption in government as i am seeing and hearing of this present government, be honest the actions of this Skeritt present government need to be investigate, i do hope that when he looses the election he will remain in DA
