It’s just another day for you and me in Paradise

By Gabriel Christian Esq.

“Tis an unweeded garden that grows to seed. Things rank and gross in nature possess it merely.”

Ever the master of political statement, William Shakespeare’s word capture the terrible state in which Dominica now languishes. “An unweeded garden.” The phrase conspires up images of zebgwa, zebgwa everywhere. “That grows to seed.” The landscape has become barren.

Male pawpaw trees produce no fruit. “Things rank and gross in nature possess it merely.” Note the imagery of rot and stench evoked by the words “rank” and “gross.” This is what now “possesses” Dominica.

The evidence is there to support it. Police officers complain publicly about drug overseers who cavort with government officers. Government cronies who have no visible means of income host parties and boast of making their first million.

Young Dominican girls, still flush with the innocence of youth, join the ranks of defiled womanhood as they are recruited and later arrested overseas as drug mules.

A government minister transports counterfeit money to Cuba and gives no explanation where the money came from. On weekends, prostitutes and parl reps mingle at a “respectable” nightclub while misguided Dominican women on other nights grope half-naked male strippers and slip their hard earned dollars into filthy thongs.

A pastor who flaunts his friendship with the Prime Minister demands $50,000 from his congregation to celebrate his fiftieth birthday! Welcome to the new Dominica!

Bondye Seyen Mawi Josef!! Is this what Dominica has come to? Is this the paradise we boast about? Is this the “nature island” that we describe to our friends? Is this the island of 365 rivers?

Is this the island which has produced the likes of Telford Georges, Reverend Phillip Potter, Bishop Joseph Bowers, Baroness Patricia Scotland and Mary Eugenia Charles?

Is this the island which has nurtured so many professors at the UWI and in the US? Is this the Dominica which was once a metaphor for all that is pristine and pure, exotic and exuberant?

The people of Colihaut, with its proud traditions of slave rebellion and ban mové, now grope about, their village often covered by a thick dust from the nearby foreign-owned mining operation.

The canoes lie on the beach as their nets slowly rot. The catch is almost non-existent now as the slag and waste from the mining operation of French national, Gardakan, choke the sea which has produced fish for decades. During the day, the venerable village is almost deserted.

The few village elders no longer sit at the side of the road under the big breadfruit tree recounting stories of past glories. Now many of them cough; a dry rasping cough which seems to come from deep within their chests.

The dust is slowly stifling the life of the village and the villagers. No abatement of this pernicious environmental disaster has been engaged by the authorities.

No one knows exactly how much tarish is taken in cubic yards and how much of that income goes into our treasury. The plunder continues and the government does nothing even while two ministers drive past the village daily. Alas, it’s just another day for you and me in this beautiful paradise!

At New Town, it is not the white dust which is stifling the people. It is the white powder which effects are more insidious. A decade ago, Harlem Bombers reigned supreme, carrying the pride of New Town at the shoulders of its players.

Now many young men shuffle and emerge from narrow passages, their features aged, wizened and ravaged by the cocaine which has transformed a vibrant hamlet into an urban landscape called Baghdad.

There are no remedial programs to deal with their addiction. No government counseling programs. No opportunities to wean them away from the white powder. Welcome to the new Dominica!

In Roseau, the pace is more frenzied. Trucks and cars zip by. The Haitians are doing brisk business in the market. Paros hang around Whitchurch and Courts begging for a dollar.

Others make a few dollars washing cars and vans at the New Bridge. At the corner of Cock and Old Streets, a paro pees openly at the side of the street, as a group of tourists from a cruise ship walks embarrassingly by.

At night, dogs belonging to everyone but no one roam the streets, using every pillar, post or stand as a fire hydrant. Marlene sits in her outside roofless toilet even while she daily begs for some help from the authorities. Magway Ca! Welcome to the face of the new Dominica!!

Welcome to the increasningly sad face of Dominica!!! Will this be the legacy of Labour?

On Kennedy Avenue, you approach the gleaming green multi-storey Financial building. The new technocrats strut about, seemingly intent on fulfilling a fictional duty.

They seem oblivious to the distressing signs in the town. Suddenly, a man walks purposefully through the gleaming, glass doors to the PM’s office on the sixth floor. It is Barbadian Hartley Henry, the shadowy figure who now advises the Prime Minister.

He acts as a Man Friday for the PM and the unsavoury bunch which is bivouacked outside Dominica, waiting for the fruits of their illegal gains. Henry evokes memories of another Bajan, Sidney Burnette Alleyne, the man who in the 1970s was implicated in plots to first invade Barbados and later Dominica.

They view Dominica as easy prey, these human vultures who suck the blood of young and fledgling democracies and their unscrupulous leaders.

Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are! Portsmouth has been a friend of Labour for half a century. Surely, Portsmouth must have a different story.

After all, it has two ministers in government, Charles Savarin and Ian Douglas. Before them were Earl Leslie, RBD, Mike and Rosie. But the signs of decay are more pronounced here than almost anywhere.

Huge rotting steel ships blight the view of the sea. There is no bustle of activity at Borough’s Square. Drugs and crime are everywhere. Buying a gun is easier in the town than it has ever been. Like the mango, gun play is always in season.

Outside the new Rosie Douglas School, children used to play: “A ring a ring, a rosy/my pocket full of posy.” Today, young boys often stand outside the gates of the school, selling small packets of marijuana, as the townspeople keep their distance, wondering what had gone wrong in their town.

On many a night, young criminals watch the movements on the yachts in Prince Rupert’s Bay biding their time to rob the unsuspecting occupants. Respect for law and property are slipping fast.

The government is busy building seawalls. They built a beautiful stadium. But there is no hive of activity within - except for the rare cricket match or parade.

The youths of Roseau stare at the massive structure wondering when they would be allowed in for a game of cricket, football or basketball. Gardakan, the new Massa, is repairing the interior road.

He operates in Dominica as he pleases. He illegally dredges the Layou River despite a government issued “Stop Work Order.”

He is complicit in the environmental degradation of Colihaut and imports trucks and drivers to rob Dominicans of a chance to earn an honest living. But it’s okay! Because its just another day in Dominica!!

Now is the time to proclaim a new day in Dominica!! Now is the time for the people to assert its power. Now is the time to restore a semblance of dignity in Dominica. Do we have the courage to do it? Where we don't, we have no right complaining.

Comments:
People of Dominica, how much background research have we really conducted on PM Skerrit, and other prospective government office holders?
1. What is our Government officials' true reason for wanting to be the leaders of his country.
According to the Dominica Constitution a person who has dual citizenship (citizenship of another country plus Dominica), cannot be the prime minister of Dominica. Did we do any research in the prior election and this election to ensure that PM Skerrit and others, do not hold dual citizenship?
The constitution must be upheld, and Dominicans must see to it that it does, and all Government official especially the PM meet the Dominican citizenship requirement as stipulated in the Dominica constitution.

We call on PM Skeritt and others seeking ministerial office to come forward and declare their citizenship status.

The Blue Ribbon Commission

People of Dominica, stop the fighting.

Dear Sir,

I am a Dominican, born in Colihaut and now living in the UK. I’ve just recently returned from Dominica .The Dominica you speak of is not what I have observed. I have notices progress in the inforstructure development throughout the country being made. On market day in Roseau the market place is full of food; vegetables of all sorts are available, as for the village of Colihout. The house that I stayed in is not but a stone through from the quarry with the quarry actives going on ,providing jobs for the people in colihout, but for some vibrations there in not a major dust problem in the village anymore. The villagers need to negotiate with the quarry owner so that both Dominica and quarry owners may benefit from quarry.
As for the employment situation in the country the agriculture sector is working ,so much so , it is providing jobs for our sister island Haiti ,jobs that young Dominica do not want to do. On the day I arrived in Dominica there was also 10 Haitians on the LIAT flight from Antigua hoping to get jobs in the agriculture sector. So Sir I do not recognise the Dominica you have written about in you article.

A True Dominican

Shame on you Mr Doctor a Complete MORAN.I think now the people you kill and give wrong medication to is finally acted on you and you are seeing Ghost now and you are so tormented with yourself now..SHAME SHAME SHAME so call Doctor bunch of Haters and back biters. Skerrit will not take your wrong medication to cure him for sure..LABOUR POWER. You will never rule my Dominica...Full of Education and you still a Fucking IDIOT.

a True Dominican are you sure you are not on SKERRIT'S payrole with your response? You are probably in the middle of Roseau - not in the U.K as you claim. I don't believe you and you are not fron Colihaut but instead part of the red propaganda machine----How much did you get paid? I bet it is a good deal.

Take your nonsence elsewhere--you are busted

So Gabriel, I suspect you still want some Boboy mastiff & boonjaw and Ma Baby bakes and ackra!!!! We moving on man, so just jump on the red wagon....

Brother please give it a rest people will ostracize you and send you to pasture like Athie and all the others. None of you can walk the street of Dominica amongst Dominicans and receive the rock star treatment the PM is getting. You don't have to be the author of everybody epitaph, Let it go. You do not need all this grief. I hope you spend as much time praying and reading your bible, put your trust in GOD. Man's heart is desperately wicked.

True Dominican coming from Colihaut,I am also residing in the UK,East London, i visited Dominica last year for, my dear friend i was in with dismay to see what is becoming of the youth of Dominica and their further are all wasting away, in drugs and crime, my dear i spent three weeks in DA after arriving in the island four days upon arriving there i told my family that i do not think that i will stay longer, and that DA is not the Isle of Beauty, Isle of Splendor as it used to be, the youth of DA have no future ahead of them sorry to say that way that i saw it , all they have is a future of crime which is very sad. as you should know right now in England, we have young men from Dominica, leaving the island and some of them are serving in Afghanistan at present, being a true Dominican as you said you must have seen what is happening to men and women in the island, Roseau, during my three weeks in DA, i went down to the city twice, do you want to know why, walking in Roseau seeing men walking with their hands in the pants, some of these young men hygiene is very poor you should know what i am talking about, they are all over the place begging for quarter, some asking for money to by cigarettes, some saying they need to buy a drink this is outrageous for you to be saying that you did not see any of this during you holiday in DA. you own word (Quote and Quote) " while traveling on Liat there were Haitians on the plane traveling to Dominica to work the soil, for you this is a great achievement for Skerrit government, sorry to say it is not, as one you Dominican man told me, the island is dirty with Haitian, this people they are not interested in the development of Dominica, it is all about themselves, my dear friend, i do hope that you are taking note and listening to new coming from the Dominican Republic, Florida, and the USA and even Guadeloupe and Martinique, right now in the Dominican Republic they do not want the Haitians in their country though they are neighbors, do you know why do your research and post the result, i will give you a few reasons, the high number of theft and crime, murders and so on that the Haitian are involved in, Haitian do not bring investment to any country all they do is bring destruction, as they did in Guadeloupe, where they were competing with people from DA for jobs, i can tell you i have relatives in Guadeloupe who are apposed of Haitians in DA, what some of them were doing, where ever people from DA were employed they would go to the employers and they were calling Dominican English people saying that Dominican were bad people, only to find out that right now DA is their safe Haven, when all the trees are cut down and there will be nothing left they will flee to some other country, for sure not the USA, at one pointing time i was wandering why the US coast guard were chasing them away, i was thinking if was for a particular reason i come to realized that it was not, and they had all the rights to do so. imagine DA having strip joints, this is how DA is falling, i would like to know where is Pastor Augustine and the rest of the Pastors, the Catholic Priests in DA what are they saying, i am wondering if they are getting money from Sheritt to remain silent, Sheritt is dragging DA to the pit hole, when all is said i do he will run back to the USA and live happily ever, as we all know Dominican are hard working people and with Haitian flocking to island and taking the little that is left from Dominica this is outrageous and sad, skeritt knows why he have them, all i have to say skeritt there is a God above, your day will come, i feel sorry for my family back home and what they are going through, this skeritt is doing ell he can for his pocket and his bounce of dictators and his lawyer tony Astaphans is happy as time some thing comes up because he is also getting a chunk of the money to defend skeritt with all the corruptions and mishandling of grants that other countries are donating to develop the island, Dominicans do what is best for DA
God Bless

The same story in Dominica is being repeated in St.Kitts with Denzil Douglas and his band of cronies and I find it so fascinating that there are two individuals that seem to be common to both. Astaphan and the shadowy figure Hartley Henry. What both prime- ministers have been able to acquire on a government salary is mind-boggling and they are so bent on keeping power that I think only a bullet will vacate the present positions they hold. Oh! the corrupting influence of too much power.
However until the intelligensia in both islands rise up, rather than staying silent either for fear of victimization, selfishness ( I have mine already). These islands will continue to have these corrupt governments, rather than the kind of government the populace truly deserves

Yes Skerrit is a Rock Star--sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Gabu,as you were affectionately known to us Laborites, did you check Ron Green's citizenship?.Why are you trying to mislead our people. Do you believe the problems in New Town, Roseau, and all over the country started when the Labor party got into power. Shame on you.It is strange to hear you mention Ms. Charles in a positive tone. I, or we remember the names you called our deceased prime minister. Politicians need to be honest. Why should I listen to you when you are spreading lies and underestimating our intelligence?.
This news letter use to be very a informative source of information, today it is regarded as a voice of the opposition. I haven't seen any articles from you, the educated shit heads concerning the labor victory in the BVI's. It use to be a pleasure reading this paper Dr. I can't believe that an inteligent man like you would join these "salops", this election " nous cay pepe allez zour". Labor Power, Citizens stick with the vision. Gabriel is a "twet".

You are a real moron to attack Gabriel. Is Gabriel the one who is selling passports and pocketing the money? Is he the one that is corrupt and using state funds to build houses and villas in the North of the Island? I suppose you will blame him for the fact that Dominicans now need visas, to enter Canada? Thanks to the bankrupt policies of Mr. Skerritt and the sale of our passports to mafia types around the world; Dominicans now need visas to enter Canada. I suppose, you find this sorry excuse for a government acceptable? You are obviously an ignorant, Labour party salop and a dumb one at that!

Stop displaying your ignorance, there was no victory for Skeritt in the BVI. The only victors were Dominica and Mr. Felix Chen. Mr. Chen was the Claimant and Skeritt the defendant, so how could the claimant and defendant be victorous. There could only be one victor, that was, the Claimant, Mr. Felix Chen. Please check your facts, before, you come on the blog talking rubbish.

Mr. Christian is a noble and accomplish Dominican, something, you will never be. Stop singing to Skeritt for your super - have you no commitment or love for your country? Or are you so desperate to cash in on Skeritt's handouts, that you have lost all sense of decency and morals? Have some respect for yourself and stop making a fool of yourself on this blog.

It's a shame that the Haitians who are less fortunate than us are making it in Da and our people who were born and bred there can't seem to make it. Maybe if they stop being so lazy and dependent on hand out from everybody including the government they would be able to be self sufficient.
Those of us overseas cause them to be lazy as well. They want everything they seee advertise on television. We make them think that there is a money tree that we shake whenever they need something. Instead of putting all the blame on the PM, we need to blame ourselves also for encourage that kind of dependence.

My!my!my! what they say is true.. if you sleep with dogs you will wake up with flies.

Everyone seems to be throwing stones at the PM. They all are seeing what's wrong with Dominica, yet i haven't seen or heard from anyone with a clear plan and vision for Dominica.
In that case, YOU PUT UP OR SHUT!!

I beg to differ with you my friend, it is not the diaspora that are making Dominicans dependent, it is Mr. Skeritt. If the Prime Minister and his government were creating sustainable development and jobs, there would be no need for remittances or handouts via the Red Clinic. But, there are no jobs, our people are poor and desperate, so, they have no choice, but to beg and bum. That is why, they need help from their relatives in the diaspora. And, it is unfortunate too, that, the P.M. uses the Red Clinics to hand out money to the poor, mostly labourites of course. This is so offensive in my opinion, that the government will deliberately foster a culture of dependence. Just so that Mr. Skeritt can appear to be a messiah to the poor and to keep them dependent on him. Skeritt is really a sick man on all levels, and this man has to go on December 18th, 2009. The Labour Party has served ten years in government, and the report card on them is a FAILURE. IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE, FOR DOMINICA TO PROSPER SKEROO AND THE DLP MUST GO ON DECEMBER 18TH, 2009 OR ELSE DOG IT OUR SUPPER IN DA.

You fool, Skeritt is the Prime Minister, he is in charge of our government, he is the one that must outline a vision for the country, but he has not. In fact, after 9 years in power, the Labour Party Government of which Mr. Skeritt is the head, has failed to stimulate our stagnant economy. Under their watch, Dominica has become poorer; crime, unemployment, and poverty have increase. Since, we the people elected them, and they have failed in their duty to bring growth to our small island state, we have to hold them accountable.

Now, they in the DLP are asking us for a third term, to do what? They still have no vision to bring prosperity to the island. In fact, they are corrupt and incompetent. They are the most corrupt and incompetent administration that ever graze Dominica's landscape. Our government is also the most corrupt and incompetent in the English speaking Caribbean - mon dieu, this is a dismal record by any standards. Shame on the Labour Party for their lack of performance in office.

It is said where there is no vision, the people perish, well the results are there for all to see - Dominica is regressing. After 9 years in power, this government's legacy is one of corruption, incompetence, greed, lies, crooks representing us as our diplomats abroad and the list of dirty deeds goes on and on and on. This bankrupt lot has nothing to offer our country, it is time for them to go.

I would like to go on record as saying this is the most corrupt regime in Dominica's history. After Skeritt, there is no where for us to go but up, so on December 18th, 2009, let us vote for change and a new vision under Ron Green's leadership. I say enough is enough, good bye to Skeritt and his band of crooks! And, no, we will don't have to put up or shut up, in fact, we have a choice in Ronald Green and Judith Pestina. We will not put up with another five years of bankrupt and corrupt leadership under that low life, Skeritt. We will bout him out on December 18th, 2009 and send his greedy ass to prison.

In one of the blogs posted earlier someone mentioned about Dominicans not being able to go to Canada without visa because of the PM. I guess that person has a selected case of amnesia? Let me remind you that the scandal started with the UWP.Do you remember Rosie Douglas had to go to Canada to straighten things out? Where were you?
Dominica politics has always been about corruption. Remember J.B Charles, Dame Eugenia's father owner of the penny bank in Dominica. Ask the people who saved their hard earned pennies where it went?
So who are we to throw stones?.
We need not go that far, most recently Earl Williams or need i say anymore? We need to pray very hard for our country and it's leaders and ask God to give them the wisdom to govern in the appropriate way. Let us all as fellow Dominicans think of ways to build our country and not tear it down because Dominica belongs to all of us and not to just a few.
HE WHO HAS NO FAULTS OF HIS OWN LET HIM CAST THE FIRST STONE!!!!!!

We say we want change yet we can't agree to disagree. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, No one should be called names for their opinion.People like you remind me of Massa Day. In case you didn't get the memo MASSA DAY IS DONE!!!. This is not carnival, so act itelligently

I agree with the last blogger, we should not call each other names on this blog. Please agree to disagree respectfully, there is no need for name calling.

To the other blogger, it was true that the Late Prime Minister Rosie Douglas, went to Canada in 2000 to talk to the Canadian Government about our country's sale of diplomatic passports. In fact, the Canadian Government was about to impose visa restrictions on Dominicans entering the country, but, Rosie spoke to them and they stopped their action. He told them that he was going to put a stop to the sale of passports. As soon as, he died, the DLP government started selling passports, so, the Canadians impose visas on Dominicans entering the country. We need to put, the blame at the DLP's feet, had they followed Rosie's policies, the Canadians would not have taken such actions. It seems as if, this present regime have discarded all Rosie's policies - what a damn shame and betrayal of Rosie's memory and hard work.

Skeritt will burn in hell for his betrayal of Rosie. He is nothing but an opportunist and a theif. Where was Skeritt when Labour was struggling in opposition for 20 years? It was Rosie, Pierre, Mike Douglas and other comrades who sacrifice to keep the Labour Party alive in oppostion. Mr. Skeritt is just benefiting from other people's hard work. And, he has done such a terrible job and destroyed the labour party too. It is time for Skeritt to go!!!!!!!!!!!!

To all you people in here, these are some quotes from Will Durant to ponder upon. Think about them deeply before writing your next post:

•A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.

•Every vice was once a virtue, and may become respectable again, just as hatred becomes respectable in wartime.

•If man asks for many laws it is only because he is sure that his neighbor needs them; privately he is an unphilosophical anarchist, and thinks laws in his own case superfluous.

•One of the lessons of history is that nothing is often a good thing to do and always a clever thing to say.

•Our knowledge is a receding mirage in an expanding desert of ignorance.

•The political machine triumphs because it is a united minority acting against a divided majority.

•The trouble with most people is that they think with their hopes or fears or wishes rather than with their minds.

To Gabriel's defender. Gabriel's critic took you down to his level. You could have handled the matter more intelegently. Do you guys really believe that all Dominica's problems began during Skeritt's Labour Party rule? That the drug problem in Harlem(New Town) is a result of Labour rule. The drug problem was around during Freedom Party reign. Many of us were made to believe that Skeritt was on trial in the BVI. Remember Lenox Linton's article? You sir have become the third Sallop. In closing, the sallop club is not accepting any more members so pleeeaaassseee no more applications. Now the experts have presented all our problems, how about some solutions. Again, how about some solutions. Let's move forward people.

I am not a Gabriel defender my friend, I am just speaking the truth. You seem unable or unwilling to accept the facts, Mr. Skeritt's record in office is indefensible. Please stop wasting your time, you are just displaying your ignorance and making a fool of yourself.

The BVI case, I repeat was against Mr. Skeritt and his Ambassador crook David Hsiu, Mr. Chen prevailed in this case not Skeritt. If you are unable to understand the law, please go talk to a lawyer. Stop engaging in matters which you don't understand.

I agree we need to outline a new vision for Dominica, that is what your boss, Skeritt failed to do after 9 years in office. That is why, he must go, the man has nothing to offer us by way of a vision for this beautiful island. Now is the time, to move forward and elect a government of national unity, that will bring together the best and brightest to serve. We are tired of being represented by thugs, enough is enough, it is time for Skeroo to go to prison. In the civilized world, men like Skeritt are called common criminals. They are put in jail for their crimes not rewarded with political leadership. Wake up Dominicans our future is at stake......take a stand against this corrupt regime not Gabriel. It is not Gabriel who is stealing from the state, it is Mr. Skeritt. Wake up my friend and smell the coffee.

Dominican from Colihaut, where did you get drinking water from?Guess at the supermarket. As our people can`t drink pipe bore water and have to go to syndicate or Gwono to get their water.I live in the U.S and visited recently so obviously we visited two differently Colihaut.Jack is raping our village and you guys need to be fair.

People DNO was one of the few places left where people can express themselves semi-freely, even they the censored, and edited some of the post, please observe what has happened on DNO in the 12 hours! Look well! Probably the dictator's long hands has reached on the neck on DNO! WOW! They don't play!

The record keeper

If this article was intended to be a parody of Oliver Goldsmith's "The Deserted Village", it failed to indicate that moral decay is occurring at an uncontrollable pace everywhere in the world. We voted for Skerrit; and he is a reflection of us. This article paints a romantic idyll for a return to a Dominica of our youth. Well, as we grow older, the country ages too; decay of every denomination becomes due. Why is every government accused of corruption? We are all corrupt by nature.

Lets set the record straight, the only reason Rosie came to Canada is because he was the PM of DA, as a mater of fact Rosie did not come to Canada to meet with the government of Canada regarding the sale of Dominica passport, Rosie was on his way from the Olympic, he stop in Canada where he meet with some Dominicans in Toronto, Mr Douglas was interview in Canada regarding The Sir George Williams Computer Riot was a 1969 event at Sir George Williams University in Montreal

The interview was held on a Sunday i listened to all of it, when asked about the sale of the Dominica Passport, Mr Douglas told the interview that Dominica is a Sovereign State and no one can tell him what to do, he was told to stop selling the passport and that the government of Canada will chip in whatever they were getting for the sale of the passport, he did not do so, as a matter of fact which all of you know Miss Charles was and is the person who started selling Dominica's passport and no one is blaming her for that, if you people want to know what wad told to Mr Rosie when he came to Canada in 2000, get the facts right he did not visit Canada to discuss the sale of Passport he was on his way the Jamaica, when Skeritt will loose the election he will run to the USA where he is hold dual citizenship, Dominica is sink and it is sink very fact, Haitians coming to Dominica and making it, who knows with their evil mind what curse they put of DA citizens is all about themselves we it is all said and done they too will live with all the money they save from DA, DA is the only country they can go to, do you all research to find out why they are not wanted in The Dominican Republic, thank you God Protect Dominica from the hands of Skeritt, he need to go, right now i am listening to Marco Neighbor on DBS

It is true that my father met with Dominicans and other members of the Black Community in Canada during his visit to Canada in 2000. But, he also met with government officials. The fact is when my father, Former Prime Minister Rosie Douglas came to canada in 2000, he did meet with government officials in Ottawa to discuss with them a number of issues including the Dominican government sale of passports under the previous administration of Mr. Edison James. He did tell the Canadian government that his administration planned to put an end to the sale of Dominican passports. That was why, they postponed imposing visas requirements on Dominicans entering Canada. It was a year, after his death, the DLP government started selling passports and the Canadian government decided to impose visa restrictions on Dominicans entering Canada.

Former Member of the Canadian Parliament, Hon. Jean Augustine can attest to the fact that my father did have a number of meetings with government officials in Ottawa. As a matter of fact, she was the one who arranged those meetings.
