General Election is not on Santa’s list but on prime minister Skerrit’s

By Dr Emanuel Finn

An election at the height of the Christmas season is cruel-plain and simple. It shows that our country is devoid and bankrupt of any real leadership.

Christmas is a time to step back and think about what’s important to us at this time -family, forgiveness, and love for country. Elections are the most divisive time for our small country where the beastie nature of our side comes out.

What happened to the notion and ideal of peace on earth and good will among people and tidings of joy at Christmas time? Elections at Christmas? Is this what Christmas has come to?

Friends, country men and compatriots, please lend me your ears and eyes- we are in real trouble and this is just the tip of the iceberg. What’s next, a campaign of state intimidation?

After the polls close and if prime minister Skerrit gets his wish, will we see a consolidation of police, henchmen and selected ‘ladies’ controlling the organs of the state? To some extent, prime minister Skerrit has held Dominica hostage with all the money he gets and has access to.

Supposedly if he wins the elections (and God forbid), will he want to stamp out any opposition to his increasing autocratic rule?" Facing a future of worsening poverty and harassment, scores of Dominicans are expected to flee their homeland.

Who cares as long as prime minister Skerrit retains power and control- right? No- wrong. Elections are a time when emotions run high and when less fortunate citizens are used by political parties, fight and quarrel against each other.

We all become stressed and short tempered, turning villages and our towns into battlefields. Oh no, once Skerrit can win by any means necessary we are in good shape—leadership Skerrit style you’ all. HO HO HO!!!! Merry Christmas you ‘all from your great leader.

Where is the church, the most powerful and influential institution in our the land with all this’ makacqui’ (madness)? Is it that the church is in Skerrit’s back pocket as well?

If that is the case then we are doomed. The response from the church, His Lordship the Bishop and the right honorable president and a good man, Dr. Liverpool, and all citizens about holding elections at Christ‘s birthday season should be: Ho! Ho! No Way!

While Mr. Santa Claus is about to depart the north pole with his crew for his long journey of comforting the sick, Roosevelt Skerrit and his crew are causing Dominicans at home and abroad to be filled with worry. How many Diaspora Dominicans are lauding Skewoo or Doc. McIntyre?

Yes indeed your Diaspora strategic plan is working nicely. Dominica must tell the one who currently occupies the highest office in the land; Ho! Ho! OH NO!!Ho! No Way.

On Thursday night with his announcement in Mahaut, the prime minister became the Grinch who stole Christmas, the most meaningful of spiritual and religious seasons. Yes the same Skerrit whose battle cries are, ‘God is great all the time’.

Well if so, why disrespect and disregard his birthday? Why? This is so sad and shameful. This writer along with thousands of Dominicans at home and abroad are full of anguish and we cry for our beloved home. Our country’s leader may very well have lost his way.

Times are tough and the economy is bleak. But is Christmas really a time for elections? What should we tell the kids? Perhaps now is a good time to have a talk with our children about the economy, sacrifice and the real meaning of life and what’s important to sustain them through life.

Now is a good time to take Christmas back. Hon. Mathew Walters, who and what do you want? Christmas –Christ’s Birthday or Roosevelt Skerrit? Friends, countrymen, compatriots, what does Christmas mean to you?

Does it have to be about general elections when the beastie nature of all of us come out? Does the star of Bethlehem mean anything to us? ‘Of course not-all I want to do is to win-baby –win’ is probable the response of this prime minister.

Someday, everyone is going to get sick when they read this story. But not yet, certainly not when money and gifts are flowing like the Roseau river-not yet- - who cares-win- baby –win- right prime minister- no- wrong.

Maybe in spite of all the money and gifts and everything else that is wrong with this current government, maybe we all could use this opportunity to turn Christmas from a time of stress to a more traditional time of family, love, and peace.

Folks take comfort that there is a God above watching over our county. Money cannot buy love; it cannot buy loyalty, just temporary friendship and convenience. Please remain calm Dominica and during this trying time when your faith and patience is tested.

To the police high command, please remember that you have sworn to serve and protect the citizens of Dominica- not the interests of any one man. Please exercise vigilance and wise command and control over your troops.

Before things get out of hand at Christmas time-no sorry -General Election time, allow me to say to you Dominica, 'Compliments of the Season.' May the best of the season be with you brothers and sistahs’. God Bless our country.

Emmanuel Finn better known as Ron Green, you and the likes of Paul Joseph, Lennox Linton Matt Peltier and all the likes of you cannot stop Skerrit from winning. So seat back and enjoy the path of development we are experiencing in DA

Emanuel Finn,
Have you ever played poker? It’s a game of strategy and guts. When someone calls a bluff a good player knows that this is the time to monopolize as a bluff usually indicates weakness.

Likewise, in politics many bluffs are called. The UWP constantly called that political bluff by dearing the PM to call elections and claiming to be fully ready ANYTIME elections are announced. So like a good poker player, the PM is now standing and challenging the UWP’s bluff! In addition, we the spectators standing on the sideline all knew that the UWP had a shitty hand and was only using their words as their strength to frighten the PM's game. Oh what an entertaining game this is turning out to be. The cards are now all on the table and it is time to see all players’ hands…but like in poker, this is the real moment of truth. This is the moment where words can no longer help one win the game. Christmas, shishmas…all I am hearing since the PM challenge UWP’s bluff is a bunch of hot air words.

Emanuel Finn, grow up and agree that you and the UWP have been beaten at this round. Stop complaining and get ready for the final round where winners take all. May the better man..ooppsss…better party win!!!

Hey Finn, you are beginning to sound like that idiot Glen Beck, with all that fear mongering and propaganda spewing. I know to be a man of far superior intellect than that moron. Seriously reading this article sound like a script from Beck.

Makacqui - such a good description of Dr Emanuel Finn's article. Nah ... Finn must have been trying to joke.

But if he is serious then he is just plain makacqui himself!

Well said Dr. Finn, I agree with you. Seems there's a lot to hide. Every flight to Dominica has been blocked and all the air time on DBS radio and Kairi bought. This appears to to be the tactics they learned from the Chinese. And we already have a group of "selected" ladies running the show. You can guess how they were vetted.

Dr Finn is just bitter and full venom because they didn't get what they wanted. lol.

Dr Finn I commend you for this bold and no nonsense article. It is well written. Someone need to tell the PM enough is enough and you have done it.I also trust my people will tell this corrupt Labor Party on December 18 GOOD RIDDANCE.

On October 4th 1963 in an opening statement to a special session of the UN General Assembly, H. Selassie emperor of Ethiopia said.
Throughout history it has been the inaction of those who could have acted.
The indifference of those who should have known better.
The silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most.
That has made it possible for evil to triumph.

Julius John-Charles, NJ USA

Good Morning Dominica and Everyone,
First let me thank you for reading the article—I am grateful for that in the spirit of our country and democracy. But just understand that whether you oppose or support the basic points that were conveyed in the article, this not about me, Ron Green or Roosevelt Skerrit. This is about Dominica, a small island we call home and which is at the crossroads—please understand that and please understand that this is what elections are all about-putting the issues and everything on the table—not about lapo cabrit and sounds systems at rallies and campaign stops. Not about hurling insults and personal attacks. Those who run our country and aspire to do so need to be held to a higher standard.
Yes let’s play politics but let’s understand that we are a civilized and educated people with a very painful past and hopefully a brighter future of self determination as well.
Also allow me to say something else to you and maybe you might just understand my position. I consider myself a student of politics. The history books are filled with people like Skerrit who get devoured by the very same powerful tiger that they are riding. Also money and big money wins elections and God knows he has plenty of it. So I will not be mad if he wins—no not really in spite of the fact that (by full disclosure) I unequivocally support Ron Green. I hope you can respect that. In politics, victories and defeats are cyclical. Labour was in the wilderness for more than two decades---Freedom was high for about two decades—so these are the facts.
Calling an election at a time we all cherish and is so meaningful to a small country is dangerous. It also shows that leaders such as this current one will do anything as he attains more power and I am very, very concerned about that---it is not just about winning folks---- attaining victories by fraudulent and manipulative means amounts to the greatest defeats.
Not too long ago Skerrit was boasting that hi party will win all 21 seats- then he took it down to 16----If he has all those $$$$$$$ and confidence why interfere with such a serious tradition as Christmas? Is that leadership I ask? Look at yourself in the mirror ‘Poto’ Labourites and answer me.
I am proud to be a confidant of Mr. Ron Green, a humble man of great integrity and ethics. I have known Ron for over 30 years and I have a great deal of respect and admiration for him. This is not about aligning myself with power. This is about integrity and friendship. Ron has help my people in La Plaine unselfishly for more than three decades—it is not just money it I s about caring for your fellowmen and being there to lend an ear and a hand—Ron has done that. Skerrit has given out $$$$$$$. Are our people more dignified with the $$$$$$ skewoo has given them?
Maybe someone needs to tell Skerrit that when one holds the office he currently has, most of his friends are nothing but opportunists. Someone told me ( I am not sure if this is true) after Patrick John was taken to prison, only about 5 of his most powerful friends came to visit him in the big house at Stock Farm.
I also must tell you that when UWP was in power and Edison James announced an election in the middle of the New Year’s night at a fete at Pt. Mulatre, I was equally appalled and angry with that decision and I switch my support to Rosie and Labour. We all must take a stance on fundamental things in life when it means so much to us and our people.
I have a bad feeling about this election and yes I fear that the worst is yet to come with Skerrit.
Please don’t talk about my home boy Brother St. Jean--------I am writing an article about him as well…….disappointment is the word to sum it up.
Peace out.
Have a good day

Emanuel Finn

Can someone explain why the RLP is out of the picture? I believe the supporters deserve an explanation. Are they working with the UWP or are they secretely supporting the DLP. We need answers, especially if they decide to resurface some time in the future. This behaviour just show how serious they were from the begining

Dr Emanuel Finn you raise more questions as to your motives than you do of Skerrit. By the way, makacqui is a good description for your explanation to your article, which was makacqui itself.

This is one of the few times I will be in full support of Dr. Finn, it is not about the messenger for me, it is about the message. I totally agree with him on this one. We all know that politicians by nature always do what is politically expidient and never care about what is right, moral or just, but this one takes the cake.

Skeirtt and the rest of the rouges in his regime really think that ALL dominicans are idiots.. Cheng brought Skeritt screaming and kicking as a witness in this BVI case and those devious, fraudulent, unscrpuloous, lawless, deceptive, evil, thieves, in the labor party want to use this incident as an ace to win an election on.. What an insult to the intelligence of thinking Dominicans. We have to admit that there are a lot of non thinking Dominicans as well. But you van fool all of the people some time, some of the people all the time, but by gully never ALL the people ALL he time.
God Save our country from these bandits.

I don't live in Dominica at present but has recently been back home and if is one thing I realise that most Dominicans in Dominica are living better lives than many Dominicans oversees and the development which has occurred under this leader is Immense and only comparable to that of what Dame Eugenia Charles did when she was in the Leadership of Dominca. This is a smart and devoted guy to Dominica who spent a lot of his time educating the youth as a Teacher and yes Ron Green in his own way is a Good manand so is Judith Pestaina but They are Beaten HANDS DOWN by Prime Minister Skerritt. He is the Man of the Time and hopefully Dominica will have further development with him at the helmn

To annonymous of Nov 21, 6:29 PM. You are clearly right about ONE thing. You chose "not to live in dominica". Leave the crap to us right. But he and this rogue government GOES!

Labourutes condoning what their leader doing but time will tell.God doesnot sleep

one thing i Know Skerrit was trembling this afternoon after he listened to Between You and me. So people y

you see the reason why he wants elections next month.?
He is afraid of what will happen if he doesn't win the next elections. He using all kinds of tactics but he is not God.The man fron Posse made a big fool of himself all the people who was saying he is God fearing, i told you people use church to mascarade their wrong doings. I mean some people and he is just one of them.
God save Dominica before it is too late.

Mr Finn in your own comment & response to other peoples comments, your description of Mr Ron green and acknowledgment of his contribution to La Plaine is correct I must admit. No one can dent that when Ron is a man of integrity. However, you don't mention other party leaders & representatives which shows a void in the party.

Your attempt to play the christian, christmas tradition thing reflects badly upon you and insults the intelligence of Dominicans. Dominicans while they enjoy the tradition know that Christ wasn't born on December 25th, & that the celebration is mainly a commercial one good for business rather than the spirit or soul, Christmas this year will be a double celebration for the party & supporters who win the election. Did you say that you switched support to Rosie Douglas & labour party because of Edison's announcement of an election. This is no reason for one to switch parties. Stop insulting the intelligence of Dominicans.
My advice to you is think twice before you write and don't play games with Dominicans we can see through your irrational emotional tantrums. Sorry the election is declared. Let the parties battle it out and the electorate decide.

Lets put it directly and bluntly. Dominican stop propping up this corrupted dictator. Listen to his speeches well, especially that one that he gave announcing the ecelection, check his actions, this man is delussional (thinkging that he can get aways with all these crimes) Typical of the dictator.. That last speech was so chillingly reminiscent of the speeches Hiltler gave during his time.. This is no joke, this is serious Dominicans. OH God help Dominica.

Anonymous- November 21 @ 10:59PM : Your point that Jesus Christ was not born on December 25, the date that Christians celebrate as his birthday is very well taken. Biblical and religious scholars (I am certainly not one) have debated that for decades in this modern era. But it is a very rich Dominican tradition you may admit, and why mess with it. The cheery words “Merry Christmas!” and compiments of the season are still being spoken each December by our people some of whom (like you I suppose) do not even believe in Jesus Christ.
At this time as a divisive election was called by the man who currently occupies the office of the PM, the world is once again approaching “the Holiday Season,” when the name of Jesus Christ takes center stage for a few weeks.
Amidst the often crass commercialism of Christmas, familiar carols and Christmas cards do herald the glad tidings of the baby born to be the Savior of mankind. Even, non-Christian families gather together in love and give gifts to one another. For many people, “Christmas” is their favorite time of year. Certainly not an appropriate time for a divisive and bitter contested general election. I think most agree with this point.
I am afraid that if Skerrit can get away with this election at Christmas time, then this is an ominous sign and warning that the worst is yet to come as he will be unstoppable. I hope I am wrong, but all the signals are there glaringly.
People switch parties all the time Sir. Here in the U.S, the senior senator from Pennsylvania, Alan Spector switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party when Mr. Obama became President. . Do you need me to mention that the former leader of the DFP- Mr. Savarin switched to Labour or the former deputy leader and Fiancé minister under the UWP government , Mr. Timothy, is now well in the hands of Skerrit and Labour? They must be emotionally immature and deranged!!!!!
Now your point that expressing outrage at a very poor decision is throwing an emotional tantrum. I am merely expressing an outrage .I suppose outrage and tantrums are relative words depending on which side you support and the lens you are using.
By the way which Dominicans are you talking about? Those that have already recieved plane tickets to vote, those in Dominica or all of us? Sorry I missed your point on that one.
I stand by article and response to it. I am outraged and I suppose I am throwing tantrums (same thing).
Happy Sunday.
Emanuel Finn

Hear Hear Dr. Finn (KING)I am in total agreement with you. Christmas time is about togetherness, villagers coming together to run sewinal and celebrating the birth of Jesus in their own ways. Election only brings division, even among family members. If Skerrit was so confident he could have waited another couple of months.

I have been reading your articles and I must say that I am very amused. You and everyone who hate the Prime Minister, have been calling for elections day and night. Mr Skerrit has given the nation a date for election.......yet you are blue vex! I look at you all as a bunch of childish, immarture, naughty children, who are just throwing their toys of the pram....because they did not get what they want. Did you want the Prime Minister to ask you for the date on which he should call election? You are all very hypocritical. If you care sooooooooo much about Domibnica, why have you not commended the Prime Minister, for one single good deed? Has he not done anything that you consider as "good for the Country"? What you and your gang are doing, is very shameful. If you want progress and developement for Dominica, then you should be man enough to tell the Prime Miister, well done, for some of the things which he has been doing. You speak of Dominica as though it is something which has been left on a "Will" for you. If you are not happy with the different projects which are taking place in Dominica, why don`t you tell us some of the things that you and your bunch of political "Nincomputs" intend to do for us. You all have been shouting from every pulpit, and rooftop that you can, about how the Prime Minister is corrupt! You are yet to prove to us what kind of corruption that he has done. You attack the man at every opportunity that you get,yet you can prove nothing! Skerrit is not the Dominica Labour Party. He is just doing the job that he was elected to do! Give the man a break. You call the man a Dictator. He was elected DEMOCRATICALLY, by the Dominican electorate! He is not in office like that guy from Afghanistan, who ws sworn in a few weeks ago!
I am aware that you guys are not happy that the DLP is the ruling party, because you are missing part of the action. Many of you, and many like you, wish that you were able to put your hand in the cookie jar. You are sad because, you know that the men and women in the Dominica Labour Party government, are honourable. They have sworn to put Dominica first, and that is what they have been doing!
The UWP was in office for one term, and the people of Dominica, voted them out of office because they were so corrupt. You know and I know that The UWP can never return to power!
You and your henchmen will find all kind of excuses to say that the election was not fair. The only way it will be fair for you, is if a mirracle happen, and the UWP wins. You know that this is next to impssible! If the Prime Minister says that he is going to win 16 seats, does that not tell you that he is not a greedy man? We know that he is going to have a landslide victory. The people of Dominica will decide. Whatever they decide, I will accept the decision. You should do the same! I just want you to prepare yourself for the choice of the people.
Dominicans have suffered for a long time. Today, things have changed, and it has changed in our favour. You know who the friends of the government and people of Dominica are. Tell us who is going to "help you" run this country, and who are your friends. We are now faced with a global crisis. The great industrial Countries lik the USA, and the UK, now have so many problems at this time,do you think that they will have time for us? When things were good with them, did they help us??? No!! What make you think that they will now, when their economy is in turmoil? My dear friend, you need to swallow your pride, and come back home to LABOUR! Forward ever! Backward never!
I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday. I

Bye

Hailes

Hailes; "Cookie Jar" the only cookie jar in Dominica is at the expense of the poor people of Dominica. So glat in you and your party's ability to take a share of the spoils. History will judge you all very harshly and hopefully a spot in Stockfarm.

History has shown us that corrupt leaders when the fall in time, unfortunately the country and its people are the ones who suffer.
You have the government resources at your disposal, you have borrowed money buying people and you call election now. Shame. Money has bought most, if not all of his candidates, from $5000.00 up, and you are telling me no one is concerned about this? There is no acces to th enational radio, is this good practice democracy or democracy in action. Severin McKenzie, Para Riviere programmes have ben banned on DBS. DBS has takena deliberate Labour Party policy to campaugn obnly and access only the DLP. Those out there professing Skerritt and his blind supporters, on principle what do you. I ask on principle, is there not something fundamentally wrong on thisAnd if so on this same principle can we not say it is wrong. Are we not civlised people and bnot see the road that Skerrit is taking us Down. I am a development officer within government and I tell you we are in a bad situation.

If we are not careful we may well wake up on the morning of December 19, 2009 to find that Dominica no longer belongs to us but to a billionaire in China. What is happening is real cause for concern. Allegedly they have a twenty-two million dollar budget for the election campaign. Should we be concerned where the money came from? It seems diplomatic posts are up for sale to the highest bidder and the person in control is Hartley Henry, a Barbadian. Go figure

I have never heard such nonesense! As long as the DLP is there, Dominica will always belong to Dominica. Labourites are peaceful people. You were always saying that you are ready for elections. You now have the date! You should let the people decide. The writing is on the wall. Because you are sure that the DLP will win, some of you have been saying that this election is going to be the most violent election in the history of Dominica. I must ask you this. Whom do you think will introduce violence in this campaign? Surely you do not expect Dominica and the World to think that it is Labourites who will introduce violence. We are not "blue vex!"
The Carib people and Dominica will NEVER forget what happened to them during the last election. If labourites were not very peaceful people many people could have been killed. Have you forgoten? I have not forgoten. The Carib people have not forgoten, and the Dominican people will never forget. We have seen what has began to happen.......who has hacked into the Prime Minister`s private email? Only desperate people will stoop so low!!! Dominicans are not fools! International obsrvers will be there to tell the whole world what is happening on election day. Do not lecture us about dictatorship. Dominicans can remember when the UWP was in office. We can remember on election day, they were still using the radio to campaign, and still showing their political rallies while people were voting. Now tell me, was that lawful? I guess that it was ok when the UWP was in office. You should not try to insult our intelligence! If you are so worried about where Skerrit gets his money from, in order to campaign, I think that we should be more worried about the UWP, and where they get there money from. Desperate people, do desperate things! Think about that!!!!!

Campaign financing, funds are for the purpose of running a political campaign. Guess what you can use it to fulfill what ever needs to be done to guarantee your party victory. Americans can vote by absentee ballot without have to fly back to their respective counties, we do not have that luxury in d/ca yet.

One week before Christmas the busiest shopping and travelling days in North America & Europe also know as "black out days" if you are gainfully employed - that means you cannot travel, get time off, request sick days, vacations or personal days. Nuff said/

Dr. Jno Finn:
Wouldn't it be nice and Christian-like, if you condemn the publication of people's personal information by those parties that you support? What has happened to people's privacy? Why does someone's name, address, telephone number etc be put out there for all to see especially at a time when we all are concerned about identity theft? Isn't it careless, that in their quest to get their edge and to get people to support them, they smear people's names? Isn't that spoiling someone's Christmas when he has to deal with his name being tied to political activities that he is no part of? You should stand up and condemn this act by the party that you seem to be so concerned about. They should apologize to everyone whose names they have publicized without their knowledge. This is a shameful act!!!!

It is a bit funny to see a political party such as DFP or UWP be caught with their 'Pants Down' just before the elections. As a skilled political leader, their candidates should have been slated introduced and working hard to win the votes of the people. They were un-prepared, ill-prepared and these are the people who want to Govern Dominica? Surely they have read the constitution of Dominica to know the power the PM has to call elections. As for the fear-mongering it will not work......the US or any country will do what when 'others' come to vote...NOTHING.
Dr. Jno Finn are you really a Dr.... - You need your head examined.

Dr Finn
I know you personally so can you please tell the likes of moutonbatalie to stop putting people`s personally information out there. We are living in a dangerous world and this pratice is unacceptable.I will call you to dicuss.

Yes, Dr. Finn, Mr. Skeritt really believes, he is Santa Claus. He has been using taxpayers money to dole out money via the Red Clinic to the party faithful. I hope on December 18th, 2009, Dominicans send him a clear message that our island is not for sale and kick him out of office. Dominica cannot afford another 5 years of mismanagement and corruption at the hands of Skeritt, Tony Astaphan, Hartley Henry, that salup, Barbara Dailey etc. It is time for Change and for Skeritt to go. I would much rather prefer to see, Skeritt in an orange prison jumper, than an expensive Armani suit. This man is a common criminal and a disgrace to our country. Goodbye to Skerrit and the DLP on December 18th, 2009. We have had enough of this monster.....go Skeritt go, all the way to prison!!!!!!!!!!!11

Dr Finn, the church cannot dictate to the State. A Pagan holiday assimilated into Christian customs is nothing more than an historic farce. Remember 1455?

bUT IF sKERRIT GOING TO WIN WHY ALL THAT TALK? CAMPAIGN, BRIBERY<MORE LIES AND SO ON?jUST RELAX AND WAIT FOR THE DAY.i KNOW HE IS NOT SLEEPING.
