Dominican on White House Energy Advisory Group
By Gabriel Christian Esq.
On August 5th, 2009, Dominican-born business executive Lynton Scotland visited the White House as part the Executive Leadership Council. That group was selected to advise and provide President Obama and his cabinet with subject matter expertise and advocacy on key imperatives in Energy, Healthcare, Business Development and Education.
The Executive Leadership Council represents senior level African American executives one to three levels from the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of Fortune 500 companies, CEOs themselves, and other entrepreneurs. The mission of The Executive Leadership Council is to build an inclusive business leadership pipeline, and to develop African-American corporate leaders.
Scotland is Vice President for Operational Excellence at NRG Energy Incorporated (www.nrgenergy.com), a multi-billion dollar global energy company which generates 24,000 megawatts of electricity from various fuel sources like coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear, wind, and biomass.
At the White House, the group was welcomed by representatives of the president’s senior staff including Valerie Jarrett, Senior Presidential Advisor, David Hinson, National Director of the Minority Business Development Agency of the Commerce Department, Ian Solomon of Treasury, and Van Jones the President’s Special Advisor on Green Jobs. The group was escorted to the South Lawn of the White House where they were greeted and dialoged with President Obama.
By being selected to be part of this distinguished group of executives and serving on the Energy Advisory Taskforce, Lynton Scotland, who was born in St. Joseph Dominica and attended the Dominica Grammar School, has excelled in a manner that reflects pride on the Commonwealth of Dominica and its people; such is an achievement to be applauded. Scotland’s professional standing exemplifies the best in Dominican-born talent and leadership in global industry and provides a role model for all.
Scotland’s leadership on the issue of energy comes hot on the heels of his role as Master of Ceremonies at the much feted Caribbean Glory tribute to British West Indian World War II veterans at Andrews Air Force Base Officers Club.
At that June 19, 2009 event organized by the Dominican authors Gabriel J. Christian and Irving Andre, he welcomed another Dominican whose excellence in the legal profession on the world stage has garnered much praise and pride: The Baroness Patricia Scotland of Ashtal, Her Britannic Majesty’s Attorney General. Scotland has also chaired and co-organized several conferences focused on Dominica’s development.
It can only be hoped that Mr. Scotland’s prowess in energy matters can be put to good use on behalf of Dominica and the wider Caribbean at the appropriate time.
Scotland holds an MBA in Marketing and International Business from the University of Pittsburgh, an MS in Statistics from Rutgers University, and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Dayton,
He is married to Colette Ruby Scotland (nee Bruney) of LaPlaine, Dominica; he serves on the Board of Directors of the Dominica Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Lynton:
I am delighted with the good news of your elevation to membership on an advisory team for the US President.
From our house to yours - Congratulations and Best Wishes.
I note with interest the commendations and glowing praises from all quarters especially from those who could not have cared less about your facilitative role in the various consultative events of the Dominican Disapora and its significance in the transfer of your business executive skills - the very same thing that is been requested now that you have been duly recognized by the US President.
Now we can rewrite the book about the prophet and his homeland.
When, earlier this year for example, you played a key leadership role in the Bronx meeting, the reaction of the Government's minister for Diaspora Affairs is that "Dominicans Overseas would not be allowed to run the country by remote control"... The event was castigated by Anthony Astaphan as the "Conference of Empty Chairs and Words".
President Obama is greening the US economy... even as some of those now praising you for making it to his advisory council are ridiculing the emergence of plans and alternative government commitments to green the Dominica economy. These are the very persons who angrily criticised Gabriel Christian and his Clean Energy Corporation for advocating the engagement of a government linked company that would keep upwards of 70 percent of the geothermal energy resources of Dominica in the hands of the people of Dominica. And they found themselves on the wrong side of that argument in 2008 - the year in which we celebrated 30 years of independence from Great Britain.
I am only hoping therefore, that the warm embrace your inspiring accomplishment across the board represents a starting point in the genuine acceptance of the excellent talents and skills of Dominican nationals honed in the diaspora and available to serve the best interests of our "Isle to all so sweet and fair".
May you continue to please the spirit of our ancestors.
Blessings.

Like Tony, I wish to congratulate another great national [Lynton Scotland] who has gained the respect & recognition of his peers in the USA & Internationally.
He represents one of a select group of Caribbean born Diaspora who, with extraordinary talent, have been able to demonstrate clearly that Afro-Caribbean people
continue to make it to the very top of a the highly competitive US Business Executive elite, and be invited to be a member of the Executive Leadership Council of the
US White House.
Just as Baroness Scotland, also of Dominica, has been able to excel in Britain, and is a fully deserving and excellent, highly respected Member of the UK House of Lords.
Our people are moving on, and demonstrating clearly that the Caribbean is a place from which men and women of talent continue to emerge.
We have has a woman Head of Government, Prime Minister Dame Eugenia Charles long before the USA has been able to do so!
On behalf of all of us who live here in Waitukubuli, I wish to extend our thanks to Lynton and Colette (the strength behind the great man) and their family, and assure them
that we are very proud of their achievements and success.
We hope that Lynton Scotland will expose us to & teach us of some of his entrepreneurial skills, and set in motion the prescription of success for our young businessmen in
Dominica, who will be shaping our history in the years ahead.
At the Dominica State College (DSC), we have placed great emphasis on the acquisition & development of entrepreneurial skills as a major tool for National development,
and so we hope that Mr. Scotland will spare some time to visit our students & Faculty at DSC during his next homecoming.
We in Dominica love all our Citizens who travel and contribute to the development of people everywhere, that is our God given mission ..“to make the world a better place”..
My message to us all is simple and relevant ..“Dear brothers and sisters, honour, those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. …..Think highly of them and give them your
wholehearted love because of their work. And remember to live peaceably with each other.” [Thessalonians;12-13].

Maybe this guy should come and run for PM of dominica now! Isn't that the new trend? Its ok to advise when on the outside but at home that possition is to low.
Lynton, what I admire most about you is your humility despite your great achievements. You have much to offer to Domininica, so do many, many others like you in the diaspora who our Government unwisely refuses to acknowledge and tap into these vast resources. Hopefully now that the Dominicans know that you and others are capable of advising the President of the USA, they will take note.. You make us feel proud!

I think the IPO commission should look into Edison James and the UWP and charge them for libel and slander and maliciously spewing hatred agianst law abiding citizen. Why would Lennox Linton join in the campaign to destroy Bubbles name in this latest comess.
Lennox, why do you get involved in these kinda nonsense?
What has Mr Alexis in Portsmouth done to you?
What is your beef Lennox?

Shirley Allan,
Please tell your boy Fontaine its time to post newer articles on this medium, for we are eagerly awaiting to hear your wise comments on them. We just can’t wait any longer to be mesmerized by the things you have to say on new matters concerning Dominica!

I am indeed mesmerized by your infatuation with me!! You guys are really making me begin to feel powerful! But you may not have read my comments about my recent feelings about Dominica and Dominicans. Let me say it again for your benefit! You Dominicans have made me realize what a previllege, honor and blessing it is for me to now be able to say that I am an American!!!!! My romance is now with my country AMERICA!!! Couldn't care a rat's A** about Dominica and Dominicans anymore!
Shirley Allan
Shirley Allan
Shirley, we know that you don't mean this mambo-jumbo. If the new labour party were to win an election and your top prestigious position were to be made available, you and the whole group of smartys would gladly run and rip the benefits of your hard work. You lie! With all your new-country talk and America bow-doo-doo, you would quickly trade your present third-world, second-class immigrant labeled status for a nice top Dominica job with all the perks (like the ones Dr. Sam was requesting to work in his own homeland)!
Dominica loves all its sons and daughters but we the protectors must safe-guard her from those that might exploit her!

Do you imagine to what extent you people amuse me? I don't think you could ever imagine the extent! Why do you always find a way to make every subject about Shirley Allan, yet tell her tha it is not about her? I really do not care about Dominica and Dominicans anymore, never thought I would be saying that. Thank you again for making me understand what my American citizenship means to me. I am now a very, very, proud American citizen! That's my country America!!! I enjoy all the benefits of being an American citizen especially Free speech and free thought!!!! Never cared about prestigious positions in Dominica, don't care about it now! My Country America gives me the opportunity to be as prestigious as I want to be! So don't you tell me what I mean and what I don't mean. That's the problem you people continue to deliberately misunderstand me and whatever I am trying to say! I don't care whether you believe, understand, or agree with what I am saying.
Here we go again with Shirley Allan!! Shirley please stay away from the comment board. We Dominicans are so fedup with u on here all the time blowing dirty air,why dont u come home to work with ur our people?u migrated to rhe usa but am just little troubled, are u really doing what u hould be doing for ur country?come on my Dominican sister ure not a usa born.Mother land is waiting on u when u come back, dont worry we wont chase u away for u are ours to work with....thanks sister Shirley
Hahahah!! Very funny, thanks but no thanks! I don't take orders from anyone! You seem to be very confused with your message! Think about what you want to say before you start writing! Why don't you do something for your coutry? I didn't know that the welfare of Dominica was my responsibility.

Since Shirley started talking all that nonsense about America better than Dominica, we haven't seen either Zapper or Reppaz.
This clearly indicates that Zapper was indeed Shirley Allan alias and was used by her to spread that anti-government venom and her anti-progressive ideas. Is a good thing that some of us early picked up on her misleading writings and speeches and didn’t swallow her sour pill! RIP Zapper!!!

Yeah, Shirley Allan was Zapper and she was Reppaz, and she was anybody else you guys think she was. Anti Government vemon! Wait all you will see what isanti-Government vemon! I tell you guys alreay that I don;t care about Dominica and Dominicans any more. Enjoy all you Dictatorship! I will see watching gleefully ate Dominica's conditions under the dictatorship that they are blind, too ignorant, too gullible and to happy about their state of mendicancy to see what is happening to Dominica.. But you guys just cannot leave me alone you have to find some way to drag me into your nonsense.
Dominica has gone to the dogs and become the laughing stock of democratically conscious people. Progessive if you think what is happening in Dominica today is progressive after 31 years on idependence it is much worse than I ever imagined. I have stopped telling people that I am from Dominica. I am too ashamed to associate myself with this country.. I never thought I would be saying something like that, but for me this is how it is! I am an American!!

Shirley Allan, that is nasty. your expressed shame at being Dominican is a sour grapes story and it should be the last we hear from you but it wont be. You love the limelight too much. now what you gonna do that your true American Dominican hating self is revealed. i guess beg for mercy & forgiveness and as God fearing people we will forgive but not forget you.
Here you go again twisting my words!! Didn't expect anything less. I don't hate my country Dominica. I hate what is has come to and the direction it is going. As as your opinion of me and what I like, and what I want, it is your oipinion which you have a right to, so I will allow you to express it even if it is absolute nonsense!
Sour grapes? could you please explain what are the grapes that you think I want?
