Roseau, Dominica (TDN) -- Dominica is ranked third in the Caribbean for the most number of cellphones per population. According to the latest World Bank World Development Indicators Report the country has 152 cell phone subscriptions for every 100 people.
It is surpassed only by the Cayman Islands in first place with 172 mobile subscriptions for every 100 people and ST Kitts and Nevis with 157. Rounding out the top five is Venezuela with 148 and Antigua and Barbuda with 143 per hundred people.
The Caribbean country with the least number of subscriptions is Cuba with 15 per 100 people.
The Bank in compiling its report sourced data from the International Telecommunication Union’s World Telecommunication/ICT indicators database. headquartered in Switzerland.
Dominica currently has two mobile phone providers LIME Telecommunications and DIGICEL. A third mobile company, which initially had operations in Dominica, ORANGE sold their interests to DIGICEL.
