Passing of Ashton Leatham in Toronto

The Commonwealth of Dominica, Ontario Association regrets to announce the passing of Ashton Leatham. Funeral services will take place at 10:00AM on Friday May 9, 2008 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2234 Ellesmere Rd (One street east of Markham Rd). A small reception will follow with details provided at the church.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Athie Leatham and the family of Ashton, in Toronto, the United States, England and Dominica. May his soul rest in peace.

Needed: Soccer Players from the US for Dominica Tournament

Looking to recruit soccer players from the USA to participate in an
upcoming international soccer tournament, scheduled to take place in
October. It is in conjunction with the Reunion 2008 activities.
Below is an exert from The Dominica UK Association (DUKA).

1. Minimum Squad Size : 20 players
2. Team Composition/Selection Criteria:
– Primarily Dominican or of Dominican parentage
- Players aged 18 to 50 years on 20th October 2008
- In good health
- Preferably playing in a team, but not essential if involved in
competitive football say in the last five years.
- Prepared to meet the basic costs, e.g. travel, accommodation, etc.

An international tournament involving other teams primarily from the USA,
Canada, Dominica and other countries where Dominicans reside in large
numbers is scheduled to take place from October 19th - October 25th, 2008.
The tournament is likely to take place in the new national stadium.

Due to the enormity of the tasks involved in planning the various Reunion
2008 events and the need to kick-start the process as soon as possible, it

Diaspora Housing Survey

The Government of Dominica has embarked on a strengthened housing policy that requires the execution of a pivotal role by a new entity referred to as the Dominica Housing Company Ltd or DOMCOL .

Last month DOMCOL recruited an independent consultant to undertake a housing market survey by securing data on the demand for new housing among Dominicans who are locally resident as well as those who live overseas.

It is intended that the results be used to inform decisions that relate to the Government's new housing policy.

In pursuit of the primary objective of the Housing Market Survey, the consultant has opted to field a questionnaire within the diaspora community and has requested the kind co-operation of the individuals to whom the instrument has been directed."
