The National Society for High School Scholars (NSHSS) recently announced that Keisha Blackmore of McKinley Technology High had been admitted into its membership.

The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic achievement. The announcement was made by NSHSS founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel prizes.

“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Keisha Blackmore has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic acheivement,” said Mr. Nobel. “Keisha Blackmore is now a member of a unique community of scholars-a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

Keisha Rae Blackmoore is the daughter of Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore, Minister of Labour, Immigration and National Security and Maureen Blackmoore and the grand daughter of Ms. Annette St. Hilaire.

Keisha left Dominica in 2005 after attending the Convent High and Prep schools to join her uncle (in-law) Dr. Emanuel Finn and aunt Mrs. Chrissy St. Hilaire-Finn in Washington DC.

After graduation from McKinley High in June, Keisha heads to the University of Virginia (UVA) in the Shenandoah Valley in Charlottesville, Virginia where she plans to major in Bio-Medical Engineering.

When she was reached by telephone in Roseau, Mrs. Blackmoore said of her daughter’s achievement award, “I know Keisha’s self discipline and focus will always lead to her being successful. It is also a testament of the early preparation, high expectations and discipline which were fostered by her alma mater Convent High School and her Dominican community.”

Annette St. Hilarie is delighted at Keisha’s achievement and stressed upon the roles and high responsibilities that parents and community must bear to ensure that all our children prepare themselves to compete with the best and brightest in the global market place.

Membership in NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide range of benefits, including scholarship opportunities and academic competitions. E-mail to a friend
