The Dominica Emerald Organization of New Jersey headed by Bernard Sylvester held its annual Madame Wob Dwiyet pageant at the Ukranian Center in Irvington New Jersey USA in honor of Dominicas Independence Day celebrations.

Franklin Moses was in rare form as the Master of Ceremonies as Dominicans in the New Jersey area were treated to a spectacular event complete with special performances of Belaire (dance) and Contes (story telling).

Music was provided by the Boozai Band of New Jersey, as the Mighty Dice and the SOS returned masterful performances. Only Dominican local foods were served at the event.

Lovelle Beaupierre Salisbury was the clear winner and was crowned Madame Wob Dwiyet USA 2005. She also won Miss Amity and Miss Intelligence. The first runner-up was Sandra Joseph of Roseau Valley, who also won Miss Congeniality and Best Talent.

The 2nd Runner up was Brenda Walsh of Kingshill, who also won Best Wob. The other contestants were Debbie Bertie Carib Reserve, Petrona McClean Morne Prosper and Debra Deschamps Canefield. The ladies performed in talent, Wob Dwiyet and a question round.

The main focus of the Dominica Emerald Organization of NJ (DEON J) is to foster and maintain the culture of Dominica in the Diaspora.

The increasing interest of the young Dominican-Americans born in the US tells them that they are achieving some measure of success. As the history of the Wob Dwiyet was read there was a fashion show of the jupe by a number of these young girls.

The next event of DEONJ will be a Black Tie Holiday Gala on December 10th at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey. The Prime Minister of Dominica, His Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit is expected to attend.
