Nakita Bruno Crowned Miss Carival 2006 Thomson Fontaine
Miss Dominica Nikita Bruno defeated contestants from 13 Caribbean and South American nations to be crowned Miss Caribbean Carnival (Miss Carival) in St Vincent last weekend.
Nikitas crowning represents the third time that she has been successful at a beauty pageant this year. In February, she won the Miss Dominica competition before going on to defeat sixteen contestants at a Caribbean beauty pageant last month in Tortola. She is slated to represent Dominica at the Miss Jaycees Caribbean this August in Antigua and hopes that her dream of entering the Miss Universe Pageant is realized in the near future.
Miss Dominica we love you! patrons at the show shouted as the 19 year old Nakita was crowned in the Vincentian capital. Nakita is from the Carib Reserve in Dominica and works at the Roseau Credit Union. She also won the Best Swimwear, Best Interview and Miss Congeniality titles. It feels tremendous, I feel extremely happy, I am so proud. It has been 13 years since Dominica has won and I feel very happy that I have made my country proud and obviously delighted Nakita told reporters in St. Vincent.
First runner up was Miss Trinidad and Tobago Kesha Quash while Sheridan Lewis, Miss St Vincent and the Grenadines placed third with Miss St Lucia Joy-Ann Bisette coming in fourth.
Dominica has now won the Miss Carival Pageant three times since it started in 1985. Marcella La Rocque in 1989 and Francelia Agar in 1993 were the previous winners. The competition aims to celebrate the beauty, talent and intelligence of Caribbean women.
