Dominica U19 Cricket Champions

Dominica defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) by 118 runs and unseated them as Windward Islands Under-19 cricket champions on Wednesday. Spinner Asa Edwards claimed a five-wicket haul as St Vincent set 284 to win could only amass 165 all out, the result taking Dominica to 27 points, 15 clear of the Vincentians.

Grenada ended joint second on 12 points with St Vincent when their game against St. Lucia finished in a draw. At La Sagesse, the Dominicans' lower order flourished as they dragged themselves from an overnight 48 for six, to 203 all out. Wayne Eugene hit 54 and number nine batsman Jean Paul stroked an unbeaten 41.

Spinners Jevon Samuel (3-57) and Bashford Roban (3-63) and pacer Hank Hall (3-36) led the bowling for SVG, who failed to threaten the target when they batted their second innings. Harley Skerritt top-scored with 55 and captain Lindon James hit 27, while Edwards captured five for 70 to fuel the Dominica win. Vincentian Lindon James was named top wicket-keeper in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Meanwhile, Dominicans Liam Sebastien, Jean Paul and Asa Edwards have been selected in the Windwards' youth team to play in the West Indies under-19 contest.
