Maria targets Dominica.
Roseau, Dominica (TDN) - At 11 A.M on Monday hurricane Maria appeared to be taking direct aim at Dominica as it neared the Island with sustained winds of 120 miles per hour.

On the forecast track it is expected to make landfall directly over Dominica within 12 hours as a major category 3 or even category 4 storm with winds in excess of 130 miles per hour. The storm has intensified from 90 miles an hour to 120 miles an hour in just over six hours.

Hurricane Maria is proving to be an extremely dangerous storm with hurricane hunter aircraft from the US Air force detecting gusts of 150 miles an hour in the North Eastern quadrant of the eyewall, which is the most dangerous part of the storm.

Already schools and businesses have shut down and people were moving into shelters as the storm approached the Island.

Beyond Dominica the storm also threaten islands in the British and American Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and in the Northern Leewards. These are some of the same countries already decimated by Hurricane Irma.
