Millionaire Jason Buzi is a man on a mission hoping to create a new country through a crowd funding campaign in which he says "any refugee, from anywhere in the world, can call home".
The campaign which was launched last week is targeted at raising $3 billion to buy an island to house the world’s refugee population.
Buzi told the IBTimes UK that "it was heartbreaking to see and read about the refugee crisis getting worse and worse, and no-one proposing any permanent solution. So I decided it was time to act."
Time to act for Buzi means getting the funding to buy the real estate to house potentially millions of refugees. He points to the island of Dominica, which he believes may be willing to allow the refugees in for a price.
His reason for focusing on Dominica is simple. He reckons that Dominica is roughly the size of Singapore with only 70 000 inhabitants while Singapore has in excess of five million.
Buzi believes that Dominica is an ideal location and has been pushing that line to various news outlets including the Washington Post and the New York Times.
Since the launching of the GoFundMe and IndieGoGo sites a few people has signed up but many more appear to be sympathetic to the plight of the estimated sixty million people with no place to go and who may just find a welcoming home in the nature island of the world.
