Hurricane Erika is approaching the Leeward Islands.
Roseau, Dominica (TDN) In the wake of Hurricane Danny a new tropical storm Erika has formed in the Atlantic and on its current track is threatening islands in the northern Caribbean.

Forecasters say that Erika is expected to reach the Leeward Islands by Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Winds are up to 45 miles per hour and the storm is moving at 20 mph. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 80 miles out from the center.

At 2:00 P.M on Tuesday the center of Tropical Storm Erica was about 640 miles East of the Leeward Islands.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Montserrat, Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, Saba, Saint Eustatius, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy.

Forecasters expect Erika to gain strength as it moves through the Caribbean and could reach as far as the Bahamas during the coming days.

Just two days ago Danny made its way slowly through the Atlantic but deteriorated quickly as it approached the Leeward Islands and succeeded in dropping 2 inches of rain on Dominica and the Leeward Islands.
