Morvant, Trinidad (TDN) Residents in the outskirts of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad have been expressing their shock and outrage following the brutal killing, execution style, of two brothers ages 15 and 9 years.

Police say late Sunday gunmen forced their way into a house where the brothers resided with their mother. They then ordered nine-year-old Jadel Holder and his older brother, Jamal Brathwaite, 15, to lie on face down on the ground before shooting them in the head.

The boy’s mother was able to escape unharmed but a 16-year-old neighbour, Glendel Alexander, who was at the house at the time, was shot in the leg and is recovering at an area hospital.

Police say they continue to hunt the killers and believe that Jamal was recently initiated into a gang and may have been linked to a few murders in the area. His younger brother was believed to have started to follow his brother into a life of crime.

The killings have brought a renewed focus on escalating violence in that country, which have so far for the year witnessed 185 murders, with most going unsolved. It has surpassed the 154 murders recorded for the same period last year.

In 2013 the Trinidad and Tobago government introduced legislation to allow the military forces to assist police in curbing the unchecked violence.
