The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) say Narine informed them that he would not be able to make the June 1 deadline to report for training, which was required to be considered for selection.

Narine had earlier asked the Board to allow him the extra time saying he would be able to make it to camp on June 3, 2014. The Board however refused to extend the deadline saying that they had already moved the date back from May 26 to June 1 to accommodate the players in the league.

In a statement the WICB said it had a mandate to protect the integrity of the national team. "International cricket, and specifically Test cricket, is priority and requires dedicated preparation which is integral to team success," it said.

"The WICB policy requires players to commit to sufficient preparation leading in to a series as part of a culture of excellence," the statement continued.

The West Indies goes up against New Zealand in the first test in Kingston, Jamaica starting on June 8, 2014.

Although Narine will miss the test series he will be considered for selection for two Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand on July 5 and 6 in Dominica.

The Trinidad and Tobago born bowler was expected to pair with fellow spinner Shane Shillingford from Dominica after he was instrumental in helping the team to a 2-0 series win when they last met.

Narine is the leading wicket taker in the Indian Premier league with 20 wickets to date.
