Roseau, Dominica (TDN) -- The government of Dominica yesterday ordered police to escort opposition Member of Parliament for Roseau Norris Prevost out of a Regional geothermal conference.

The event which was taking place at the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau brought together representatives from New Zealand, Dominica and other Caribbean islands. The participants discussed the development of the geothermal sector in Dominica.

Prevost who attended the event as MP for Roseau was asked to leave by Police who claimed they were acting on orders from the Minister of National Security.

“The government of Dominica and the Minister of National Security, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit must be condemned for their failure to invite neither the Opposition Leader nor the MP for Roseau, to the event,” Prevost told a hastily arranged news conference.

“In this regard, the United Workers Party Team Dominica, calls on all right thinking Dominicans and the International Community, to add their voices to the condemnation of the actions of the government of Dominica and the Minister of National Security,” he added.

Two individuals representing the interests of the local community were also unceremoniously thrown out of the meeting. Government have indicated that they are forging ahead with plans to develop the geothermal industry in Dominica.
