Roseau, Dominica (TDN) -- The police service commission has suspended two police officers for alleged breaches in the conduct of their work. The two were advised that they should not report to work until the matter is thoroughly investigated.

In the letters sent to Sergeant Philbert Bertrand and constable Gerard Durand no specific reason was given for the suspension. However, both men were recently involved in separate incidents involving the handling of non licensed firearms.

The letter read in part, “When the Commission becomes aware of any offence and the Commission is of the opinion that the public interest or the repute of the Service requires it, the Commission may direct the police officer in writing to cease to report for duty until further notice from the Commission, and a police officer so directed shall cease to perform the functions of his office forthwith.”

Sergeant Philbert was previously suspended from the police service but was reinstated after a court ruling.
