Dominicans graduate from Ross University School of Medicine

Portsmouth, Dominica (TDN) -- At the recent Ross University School of Medicine graduating class of almost nine hundred Dominica shared in the celebrations as four Dominicans received their medical degrees alongside graduates from forty-four other nations.

Ayodelle LeBruin, Charis James, Silda James and Tamara Augustine are the newly minted medical doctors.

Dr. Silda James, who graduated with highest honors, is a former graduate of the St. Andrews high school and the Clifton Dupigny Community College. She is the first child of Rickey Hillary James and Emelda James both of Marigot.

She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biology from Andrews University in Trinidad. She will be beginning post graduate training in Internal Medicine at the renowned SUNY Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY) this July! She eventually wishes to sub-specialize in Gastroenterology.

Dr. Tamara Augustine from Loubiere, the daughter of Ephnie Roberts and Swinburne Augustine, who owes much of her success to her grandmother Edith John, graduated with high honors. A Dominica Grammar School graduate, she has a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Spanish from Middle Tennessee State University.

Presently she is a part of faculty at her alma mater, Ross University. She plans to return to the US to specialize in Emergency Medicine with an emphasis on international emergency medicine with hopes to improve emergency health care in developing countries especially in Dominica.

Dr. Ayodelle LeBruin, also from Loubiere, is the daughter of retired civil servants Anthony Errol and Rosalind LeBruin. She attended the Convent High School and the Clifton Dupigny community college before receiving her B.Sc. in Chemistry at CUNY York College. She is currently involved in clinical research in the U.S. and hopes to continue her training in the area of Pediatric Adolescent Medicine in the near future.

Dr. Charis James is the daughter of Brenda Harney James of Wesley and Ned James of Marigot. Before attending Ross, Dr. James attained her B.Sc. in Biology at Rutgers University. She also has a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She looks forward to pursuing post graduate training in Family Medicine and is particularly interested in international and women’s health.
